So I just transplanted the hex poles from my Screamin' Demon and replaced the fillister screws with it and I'm quite impressed with the tone changes. I've been using the Alt 8 on my Les Paul studio, and I've liked it, but I've realized how much of a deep thumping sound it's had during palm mutes. It's hard to describe what it sounds like, but it sounded pretty messy. It's really thick, and even during solos on a first three strings it sounds really thick.
After putting in the hex screws, it definitely cleaned up the sound. Less boomy lows, and there's more definition to the lower notes. Had more of a sharper attack to it. Also, the screws brought more higher mids to the tone on the first three strings for solos and had the mids and singing quality of the jb, but not shrill and piercing.
it was quite a pleasant find. Have any of you tried this? I'm sure different setups would yield different results.
