Hey guys....MXR question.

Has anyone played the new MXR script phase 90 custom shop? Is it any different than the regular phase 90 or the EVH? Thanks.:smack:

Re: Hey guys....MXR question.

That should be a great pedal. As a matter of fact, i think the new Custom shop stuff MXR is producing is very exciting.

Re: Hey guys....MXR question.

I don't have any experience with MXR's custom shop pieces, but the standard productions suck tone like crazy FWIW...That was my experience at least.

Re: Hey guys....MXR question.

I've got an older model, it says Jim Dunlop inside on a sticker but the switch and jacks are not mounted on the PC board as I understand they are now. I believe it to be a "transition" model, if there was such a thing! At least I was able to true-bypass wire it so it doesn't suck tone when it's not in use......
I love it!

Exactly what I found too. Rather than hacking up the PCB for a 3PDT switch, I put a buffer between the circuit out and output jack. Problem solved. It required cutting a PCB trace but it worked. The buffer just restored what was getting sucked out. I have an EVH Phase 90 on the way so I'll be able to check that one out for any tone suckage. I believe that one is what they call "hard wire" bypass so it should be fine.

I haven't tried the new custom shop piece from them but I'd like too.

Yep, sounds like a transition model. Block logo I'm assuming?

Yes.......Block logo with LED, would it carry somewhat "script" status? I wanted to do the R-28 mod but found no such resister! Although I didn't look too hard!

Erik,

If you're that handy with an iron, why don't you just get a BYOC Script Phaser? They sound great, and are TB.

Re: Hey guys....MXR question.

I don't think R28 existed in that circuit. It's very similar to the script logo circuit.

Dare to compare? LOL

Hmmmmm.......Very interesting info! I'll check it out! From memory I believe mine infact looks like the last picture. I know now where to find R-8!
Thanks!

Re: Hey guys....MXR question.

Script mode on the EVH and the new custom shop reissue are quite similar, but they're not the same. The custom shop sounds very close to an original (used to have one, but sold it as I prefer the EVH) while the EVH is slightly deeper, but not quite as deep as a block logo Phase 90. Both the custom shop reissue and the EVH are true bypass which is why I sold my original. While the phase sounded great, I got tired of hearing the phased hiss when it was "off".

I thought about it several times but have other things I could toss that money at, like a fret job on a few of my guitars....LOL. I've got an EVH Phase 90 coming so I'll be doing some research on that bad boy to try and decipher exactly what that script switch does other than remove R28 from the circuit. It's SMT components so that'll be fun. I'll need to figure out what the numbers translate to on them.

It is so easy to make the originals TB. I can't believe you sold it. :blackeye: The current models are a PITA to make TB, and they need to be. Them and a wah are the only things I feel that need to be TB right away. I'll be spending some good time with the EVH when it arrives. I'm glad they made it TB, or "hard-wire bypass" as Dunlop calls it, another fancy term for TB.

So you like the EVH more? Where in Eagan do you live?
