Hey guys, after camp im getting some money together, and buying a new amp to replace my POS marshall 30 watt solid state.

My price range is 300-475ish MAX. Please help me and make some suggestions? Hoping for a nice distortion channel- i would hate to keep using my boss mt-2. Ive heard peavey classic 30's? My main playing setting is a basement- mostly just jamming with a bassist, drummer, and other guitarist. Ive heard 30 watts is awesome it its all tube since you can really crank it and get its potential? I was thinking about ebaying it, so any suggestions would help!

How about those epiphone tube amps, are they any good? Well anyways if you could post the name of the amp, manufacturor, specs (that you know), and a general price- that would be FANTASTIC!

UGHHHHH I cant wait till after the summer to finally be playing with a decent rig!

Thanks a bunch guys!- Andrew

Re: Hey guys, New amp after camp!

What sound are you shooting for. There are lots of great amps with the description you've described. I'm guessing 70s power rock / classic metal by your name.

Re: Hey guys, New amp after camp!

hey thanks for the response, ya mostly late 70's and 80's metal , but also some nice crunch for thrash rythm (think metallicas "ride the lightning" album). Also something that will somewhat clean up but i mostly (85%ish) of the time play with distortion. Thanks!

Re: Hey guys, New amp after camp!

If you jam with others, you may want to step up to a Peavey Classic 50, Fender Hotrod Deville, or Carvin Legacy combo. Another great sounding versatile amp is the new Traynor Custom Valve 40 or Ashdown 40 or 60 watter. Those two have better distortion channels.

Re: Hey guys, New amp after camp!

I Marshall dsl401 might be a good thing. I forget how much those run but I think that would put you where you want to be.

Re: Hey guys, New amp after camp!

definitely try the peavey classic stuff...

also, try the tech 21 stuff...it sounds like you're wanting tubes, but don't knock tech's analog modeling until you try it...

Re: Hey guys, New amp after camp!

thanks guys remember i do have a budet unfortunetly, 300-500, so ya. I tryed a peavey 45 watt tube and it was loud! and nice distortion. i think its called the "prowler" any thoughts? ALso something off subject. Im selling my friend a gibson 490t pickup used, how much you think is a fair asking price?

Re: Hey guys, New amp after camp!

those amps are in that price range.......used

i'd never buy a new one...just too many mint and near mint used amps out there for half the price of new...!?

Re: Hey guys, New amp after camp!

i know its amazing what ebay can do for you! So what about the pickup im selling to my friend? any ideas? again its a gibson 490t (bridge). Thanks again. How are those traynor amps? there going for 450-500 new on ebay (40watt all tube seems enough)

Thanks- andrew

Re: Hey guys, New amp after camp!

Um..... I'll be the first to say a modeling amp. They are getting really good these days. Check a Flextone or a Valvetronix.

Re: Hey guys, New amp after camp!

modeling? hows the line 6 ones? spider 2? How powerful would the 75 watt one be? Im still pretty much convinced i want a tube amp though. Hows peavey's build quality? Thanks- ANdrew
