Hey guys - what do you think about this?

Re: Hey guys - what do you think about this?

Not a big fan of the bolts, but they say it's "stable".
For an experimental guitar, if you can get it cheap, I say go for it.
If it turns out to be good with the P rails, you can always pretty it up later

Re: Hey guys - what do you think about this?

He had to write the tunings of each string on the headstock??!!!

For real??!!

Don't like the idea of bolts on the headstock...if the glue doesn't do the trick on its own, the bolts aren't going to help. Bolts may even weaken it since the wood is so thin there to begin with.

But, f you can get it for $100 it would be a fun experiment. P-Rails would sound amazing in a Dot.

Re: Hey guys - what do you think about this?

I think for $100 you could find an Epi without a broken headstock to experiment with. And I hear they're as good as Gibsons. :cool2:

Re: Hey guys - what do you think about this?

Gosh I'm all about buying cheap as long as it works well.... but even I wouldn't risk buying that thing.... the repair looks like a 5th grader did it.

I mean if it goes for 50 bucks maybe.... yeesh that scares me.

Re: Hey guys - what do you think about this?

Weren't we just talking about this?

You can fix that by using a very small piece of wood:

Re: Hey guys - what do you think about this?

That's super convenient to have the tunings written on the back of the headstock like that. My tech charged me an extra $20 to do that, and his marker work was not nearly that good.

Re: Hey guys - what do you think about this?

I've always wanted to put a set of prails in something like a fender blacktop tele or some other HH tele. With a maple neck, you could get a real Pete Townshend thing going on, like his 80s Schecters.

I'd be a little worried putting the rails in a semi-hollow: those things are really hot in HB mode, might be a feedback monster out of control.

Wait, now that I've typed that, it sounds pretty cool...

Re: Hey guys - what do you think about this?

You'd take full advantage of the P-rails with triple-shots? I'd be wary of trying to do any funky wiring in a semi-hollow body on account of the "ship-in-a-bottle" scenario, but if you got that thing cheap enough you could just hack a hole in the back, and cover it . . . The ugly-ass headstock would be the perfect decoy; nobody would even notice the trapdoor on the back because they'd be so horrified by Frankenstock

Re: Hey guys - what do you think about this?

I'd say it's worth the $3.25 that the auction price is at at the moment.

Re: Hey guys - what do you think about this?

Not to jump on a bandwagon, but yeah, in the words of Roger Waters, run like hell. Away. Far. Keep going.

That c'list one near Ciny actually looks pretty good, especially getting the case at that price. Now that bs about how you can flip it and double your money... If you could sell it for 2x that, then he'd be selling it for 2X that price.

The thing about Dots though, is they're very hit and miss when it comes to playability. Some are just total crap. Others, I still kick myself for not buying. They were freakin' awesome. Like they were custom made for my hands.

Re: Hey guys - what do you think about this?

Hey, I've got my next big idea!

Headstocks backed with whiteboard, so when you change your alternate tunings, you can just wipe the old one off and write the new one on.
