Hey Laney brotherhood, what do ya' think ?

Re: Hey Laney brotherhood, what do ya' think ?

I hear it's a good circuit Dr.

Looks clean. Deserves a good home. They come up every once in a while, along with the Klipps, mostly in the UK.

I think it has your name on it. ;)

Re: Hey Laney brotherhood, what do ya' think ?

It does, but its out of the question right now unfortunately, but Supergroup is my next thing ... I was just wondering if this price is right in the openion of more knowledgeble Laney Jedais. I heard very little sound clips of this one, does is it have that signature dark and moody Laney tone ?

Re: Hey Laney brotherhood, what do ya' think ?

Too bad it's missing the logo on the left side. I wonder if you can buy Laney repro logos? I've plugged into one before, and remember trying to offer the guy money for it. I wouldn't say it'll kill a Marshall, but it's about the same kinda sound. I remember the gain needing something to tighten it up, and the guy who owned it got a good tone with an old Rat pedal. I'm not sure I'd spend $1000 on it, although it may be worth that. I'd be more inclined to buy a boutique copy of a plexi, since everything will be fresh and new, if I were buying it as a player amp. As a collectible, it's OK.....but it'd be nice if it had a logo.

Re: Hey Laney brotherhood, what do ya' think ?

If I would get one I would not gig with it, just for recording .... just to record and stuff.

Re: Hey Laney brotherhood, what do ya' think ?

Even if it is clean, one would still need to go through it.

Old amps need maintenance. I would recap it reduce the flubbiness.

Did you get any answers to your questions on Plexi Place Dr.?

Nope,

AOR 50 (8 knob), LC30II, LC15 and GH100L in the stable. May run across a Supergroup or a Klipp one day to add to the stable.

It is possible to run the amps in series (cascading)? You should be able to, but you will need a dummy load on the OT of the first amp in series to act like a load from a speaker cab.

Might not be a crazy thought, just depends on what you are trying to accomplish.

Re: Hey Laney brotherhood, what do ya' think ?

The reason I am thinking of a supergroup is because I read that they do the whole Plexi thing but yet still have the Laney touch. What I am thinkin of having that plexi open tone with natural tube head preamp high gain, but more than plexi can do, so that's why I was thinking of cascading it, purely for recording stuff, I know that to set up it live besides it being just a pain in the arse to set up and sound check it is just risky to run old fragile amps like that to the club.

Re: Hey Laney brotherhood, what do ya' think ?

Yep, I saw that one last night in the wee hours when I looked at your Supergroup listing. Most are in the UK. Shipping should cost about 2/3 a class at the local college.

I believe the Supergroup will be a bit darker than a Plexi and may have more gain on tap.

I actually may get one of those "Hardcore" Laney amps next, and mod it with super-loud chicken head knobs. Might try pink. :)

Re: Hey Laney brotherhood, what do ya' think ?

Ohh man, I really want to add one of those to the stable. Ever since I got my Kelly head, I am in love with the more open sound of the Partridge iron. Much like the Hammond iron in my Traynor.... I wish I would have jumped on one when they were 400.00 a few years back... Trick is to find tubes that can handle the plate voltage......

There are a couple Supergroups locally, but I just don't have the dough...
