Hey Scott Olson!

Now that we've got a website for direct order to the custom shop, is there anyway you can work shop floor customs into that somehow? It's been a real PITA finding a dealer in the states that even know about floor customs, let alone finding one that's willing to take an order for one. Buying them direct would be so much easier.

Re: Hey Scott Olson!

It's more hassle than it's worth here in the states, I can't imagine what it's like trying to get one across the pond.

Re: Hey Scott Olson!

+1 and expanding options like magnet choice would be killer. Ultra killer would be allowing us to order hybrids of any to base coils we wanted to experiment with for an increased charge :)

Would fairly easy to accomplish w/ drop down menus IMO. I don't know if there's ever been a real clear line on what exactly a shop floor custom actually is. I've always been under the impression that it was possible as long as the wind of the pickup was not altered. Fore instance, and what I'm really interested in, is a 59 or Jazz neck model screw poles like the demon. Ya know, things that don't overly affect production.

Re: Hey Scott Olson!

Hey guys, thanks for the feedback. It could definitely be done and we have discussed ways to make it easier to order shop floor customs. Just need to be sure we are taking care of our dealers at the same time, folks like Banjomikez and theStratosphere have been stocking many of the shop floor customs and would have to find a way where they are well taken care of too. Will talk about it more with Cathy Carter Duncan and see if we can move along a way to make it easier for you all.

I know I'm probably an odd bird here, but I haven't had an eBay account in prob 5 years. If those guys took orders outside of eBay, awesome. I tried ordering a floor custom through JMI Music since they're the only ones that offered custom shop pickups before the site, and all I got was a run around.

Re: Hey Scott Olson!

I was pretty much guessing that shop floor customs would still have to be routed through the custom shop OR wholesale network. I imagine it would be hard to charge MAP for the shop floor customs if it's run through the custom shop portal and even harder to sell them at the "advertised retail" price that dealers display.

Also, I'd like to be able to pay extra for " lightly potted". Where the PUPS are dipped in wax, allowed to dry, them someone used a hair dryer or something similar to melt the excess wax out of the PUP. It supposedly allows them to have some of the lively interaction that comes with unpotted pickups but the squeal free performance of a fully potted set.

Re: Hey Scott Olson!

Could you set something up where there's a form we fill out, and we can select a dealer to actually send it to/pay through? The major failing of the shop floor custom (as I see it) is that relatively few people know about it, and for those who do, they don't necessarily know how to go about ordering them. If the dealer isn't super familiar with the details, there's worry about what they'll get right/wrong, and also knowing what options there really are. If you provide the gateway to the few dealers who actively deal in (i.e. otherwise stock) shop floor customs, it'd benefit everyone involved.

Just my five cents.

Re: Hey Scott Olson!

We used to have a couple of dealers on the forum - Don't think there are any around anymore.

Maybe some kind soul might compile a list of dealers familiar with Shop Floor Customs and host it offsite - I don't think its proper for SD to host such a list, unless it becomes a new tier of dealer.

I'm curious as to what kind of run around you got?

Re: Hey Scott Olson!

Everyone could go through all the reasons why they want it. But the fact is that there are customers asking for a service that is relatively inexpensive to set up and and even more so to advertise and would make the process easier for the customers. The less effort the customer has to make to get what they are paying for, the happier the customer will be. So let's get to it, chop chop.
