Hey - what is a legitimate T-Top set price?

Aceman

I am your doctor of love!
Just wondering what the going reasonable market value is on T-Tops. I got a line on a pair potentially very cheap. Just wondering what the flip value might be...

Re: Hey - what is a legitimate T-Top set price?

Bump for answer

what would be the price for a set of T-Tops to

Move right now?
Move fast at a reasonable price?
Move at a good profit in less than a fortnight?
Move if I'm willing to wait for some goober who wants original T-Tops?

I'll give you three cigarettes and a pack of stickers.

Re: Hey - what is a legitimate T-Top set price?

It depends on year, cover plating color, condition, whether or not they are a set, accessories included (screws, springs, rings), etc.

As a seller, for a super clean set with accessories, you should know that some people might spend 500 bucks, and ask accordingly. For a loose, uncovered pickup alone, in moderate condition, you might get under 100 bucks. For earlier models, you might get more.

Pair, full hardware, uncovered, good shape

Re: Hey - what is a legitimate T-Top set price?

Full hardware and uncovered don't jive. Not sure what is included and what is not based on that. Also, if they have gold screws, that's a slight plus, because it means people can put them in their Les Paul Customs.

Re: Hey - what is a legitimate T-Top set price?

In Italy a couple of T tops in a good shape is around 400 euros.

Re: Hey - what is a legitimate T-Top set price?

Black plastic rings - no covers. Chrome screws

Re: Hey - what is a legitimate T-Top set price?

I'd say at least $200, maybe $300. $400 on a good day...maybe. If they are run of the mill T Tops from the '70s. If they are '60s "pre T Tops," they are more valuable.

Re: Hey - what is a legitimate T-Top set price?

These are 70's. I kinda want the guitar they are in. Thought I could subsidize the guitar by selling the pickups. So - 800 - 300 = $500 for a Gibson. That's pretty decent.

Re: Hey - what is a legitimate T-Top set price?

$800 is also OK, if it's a nice model in nice shape. Better to keep the original pickups and replace them if you ever sell, than it is to pocket $300. IMO. It's almost always a bad idea to fully separate original parts from an old guitar, even if you will be modding. Just put them in a drawer and let them sit as the guitar appreciates while you play it with the Duncans (or whatever you put in).

In my opinion, it's almost always a bad idea to not do exactly what you want with a guitar. I'm a player - not a collector. That Ace Frehley Budokan has been played in bars...

Did you swap the pickups in the Budokan?

My post does not suggest otherwise. I simply said it's a good idea to keep the original parts with a "vintage" guitar. You're talking $300; it isn't much.
