I play Alot of Metallica, pretty much alot of Sabbath, 5-7 Maiden Songs, alot of Zeppelin, latley some Floyd, and like 5 Megadeth songs, a couple of Van Halen songs, and alot of Rhodes.

Metallica needs Hot buckers like EMG's -KH602
Sabbath need this dark, heavy, warm sound, not too hot humbuckers -SG
Maiden need pretty hot buckers -?
Zeppelin need Bluesy/Rockish Les Paulish Buckers -SG
Floyd needs someting like Zeppelin -Out of these 3 guitars-SG
Megadeth need hot buckers -KH602
Van Halen need buckers that produce this brownish sound -?
and Rhodes needs this pretty hot Buckers -KH602/RR

I need a guitar that suits these requirements;
*Under $1070USD
*22 frets preffered 24
*A guitar that suits most of these bands (Basicaly a guitar that suits Heavy Metal and Hard Rock/really a little of blues (for the Zeppelin/Hendrix/Floyd sound)
*Preferably a Whammy bar and/or Locking tuners
*Easy fret access
*Not too heavy of a body and not neck heavy

And finally, choose only one of the following:
*Jackson RR Model(Randy Rhodes)
I hear its good for Metal/some Hard Rock

*KH602 Kirk Hammett Model
Its perfect for Metallica, and plus it got Hot humbuckers (EMG 81's)

or

*Gibson SG Standard
I hear its very versatile and my guitar teacher plays my favorite bands' songs with it and it sounds pretty good. Easy fret access.

So help me choose one of those but if you relaly don't think that the guitars I chose suit the requirements then recomend me a guitar that suits most if not all the requirements. Thanks!

Re: Hey you guys I'm having a hard time choosing...

Just get a high-end RG or SG and stick duncans in it man - make your own sound

Don't rely on EMG 81s to get you a metallica tone, and don't even consider them for led zeppelin or sabbath - 85's, maybe. 81's are all metal. *really* hot, and not too good clean

i had an EMG 81/89 combo, and it dosen't like classic rock one bit. 85/89 is a better combo IMO

still, out of those, i'd take the SG and fit Custom/jazz. you can do better than metallica's tone ;)

Re: Hey you guys I'm having a hard time choosing...

Lol yeah, but the SG how it is already gets most of those ones...anyways, I won't have anymoney for pickups once I pay for the SG Standard...

Re: Hey you guys I'm having a hard time choosing...

1. Maiden = Hotrails in a strat
2. Van Halen (Old school) = lower output humbucker like the ´59 or a ´78 Model and a CRANKED Plexi Marshall. The Marshall is a million times more Important, though.

As far as the recommendations go, WHICH RR Model, 1, 3 or 5? I´m guessing the 3, or?

Although unless it´s the RR-1, get an SG Standard ;)

Re: Hey you guys I'm having a hard time choosing...

You need a Jackson/Charvel with a HB in the brigde and a bladed pup in the neck ... You might be able to get away with a used ESP (stay away from LTD). You won't be playing Metallica forever (trust me in this), so go for versatility ...

Re: Hey you guys I'm having a hard time choosing...

Zerb if anything, out of al the RR models, I woul currently get the RR5, because it is the best one in my price range, and I can't get used...

If i know zerb he will comment on the fact that their made in Korea (i think) therfore the child/slave labour issue comes in, and thats the reason i wouldnt buy from any places like that either..Although im not recommending anything out of yout list id recommend the peavey Wolfgang US Flame top model woth Trem...Great guitar and you'd get it used for about $800-$900 on ebay..

Re: Hey you guys I'm having a hard time choosing...

Uh that was alot of worry in one post!!
Dig out a sound you can use to play comfy with, then just play and perhaps use different amps....
If I started to think like that....man I'll end up having too much crap everywhere;)
:laugh2:

Re: Hey you guys I'm having a hard time choosing...

Go with the SG. It's got good playability and great value. It will also set good grounds to cover what you want.

Pups wise, the 490/498 is combo I think they use, and those should be fine. But I'd mess around with Duncans. Lots of fun and lots of tonal qualities to each. Since you're going for a pretty metalish tone yet still have some clarity for classic rock, I'd look for a JB (SH-4), a Custom (SH-5), a Distortion (SH-6), or even a 59 (SH-1) in the bridge. For the neck, you could go pretty much anywhere...59, APH1, Distortion...

BTW - What amp are you playing through? That is a HUGE factor in what tone you'll get with different guitars/pups.

Re: Hey you guys I'm having a hard time choosing...

sorry man but i still think you should be worrying more about your amp than your guitar

a good amp with a decent versitile guitar could get you in the ballparks most of those those sounds, not nail em , but get close.

Of all the Jackson Imports, IMO the SL-3, RR-5, and SLSMG are a class of their own. Neck Thru body, good materials and workmanship, Good hardtails on the latter 2 and a decent mid-quality Floyd on the SL-3(although I´d drop in an Original pretty quick ), Duncans on the RR-5.....

The RR-5 is as "classic Rhoads" as it gets right now without going USA, and is a great player. Good deal for just under a grand if a used USA isn´t an option ;)

Nope, they´re MIJ. I´ve got no gripes with japanese guitars except that they´re a foreign economy and I prefer to buy USA made whenever possible. But I have no problem recommending one, the neck thru Imports rock :headbang:

I personally would go with an SL-3 for versatility, though. You can out a Lil´59 or similar in the neck and something cool in the middle slot and cover more or less all the bases :22:

Ah well in that case everyones a winner, cept the american economy of course :laugh2:

Re: Hey you guys I'm having a hard time choosing...

So look, I've thought about it, and the KH602 really isn't versatile, it will only cover Megadeth/Metallica/Maiden...so, even though I love that Metalish sound with the EMG's...I'll move on. Its either the RR5 or the SG Standard(Gibson). I've barely know about Duncan pups, what sound will they get me? Will they cover most of the bands that I listed? Like-are they more for the Classic Rock/Hard Rock that I really like or theat Havy Metal sound that I love? Are they hot? Same tihng for the SG pups (490/498), and which would guitar would you choose out of the RR5 and SG Standard? Oh ya, the only problem on the RR5 is that its a flying V...I play mostly sitting down, but I've played a Jackson V similar to the RR Series in a guitar Store, and I've found some way to sit with it between my right leg. (I howeer do love the look of that V). And what is that weird bridge the RR5 has? I've never seen or felt that bridge, it doesn't look to comfortable, all I need is a floyd on the RR and I would be set..

Re: Hey you guys I'm having a hard time choosing...

Duncans will get you pretty much any sound you want if you choose the right ones, and i would not worry about them not being able to get metal tones, loads of the guys here play mostly metal.

Re: Hey you guys I'm having a hard time choosing...

Hey Zerb, move over to the US and i can get you all the Jacksons you want, US baby.

Re: Hey you guys I'm having a hard time choosing...

what amp are you using dude? i think alot of metal tones have to do with the amp and its gain and drive........

Re: Hey you guys I'm having a hard time choosing...

i get a half decent metal tone out of my gordon smith and the pups on that are about 10 k i think (from memory) i know the neck is 9 ish and the bridge isnt much hotter.

hardly "hot"

i just put quite a bit of drive off the amp ... guitar port :p
