HH Strat wiring help

Hello everyone. Im building an HH Strat with the Whole Lotta Trembuckers and ive hit a wiring snag. Im using this diagram with a 3 way lever switch instead of a toggle and not sure which lead to run off the switch to the tone pot. What I have now turned the tone into a master volume so I wonder if the cap is on the wrong post on the tone pot on this diagram. any ideas would help thanks http://www.seymourduncan.com/support/wiring-diagrams/schematics.php?schematic=2h_2v_1t_3w_ssp

Re: HH Strat wiring help

You should have two wires coming off the output lug of the switch. 1 goes to the center lug off the tone pot, the other goes to the hot lug of the output jack. You also should have a ground wire connecting the back of all three pots and the ground lug of the jack and one to the bridge

Not the best diagram but...
there is a pretty good one on the DiMarzio site, http://www.dimarzio.com/support/wiring-diagrams#1-4-3-1-4 but it opens to a PDF so the link may not work.

Yes, I saw this diagram last night and the only difference is the Cap and wire are on different lugs than the Seymour Duncan diagram. Im about to post pics of what ive done so far. I don't have a smart phone so it takes me a little time. Thanks

Re: HH Strat wiring help

Here is where im at so far. have not done any of the ground wiring yet, Wanted to make sure I got it right first and looks like I got the Pickups backwards as well, somehow.HH-Strat-Wiring2.jpg

Re: HH Strat wiring help

You have the capacitor connected to the centre lug of the tone control pot and the signal cable to the "outside" lug. These should be the other way around.

TIP: Before you tighten everything up, rotate the middle pot through one hundred and eighty degrees. In the event that you ever need to resolder any of the connections, this will give you room to wield the iron/gun.

I had a feeling that was backwards, thanks.

Starting to think I have a bad switch, re-wired it and the pickups are still backwards and still can't get a Middle/both signal. Back to the Soldering Iron:doh::flush:

Re: HH Strat wiring help

Compared to the GE schematic digram, your connections are on the wrong poles of the switch.

Visualise the terminals as;
A1 B1
A2 B2
A3 B3
A4 B4

Terminals A4 and B1 are the common (or wiper) contacts. These two need to be linked for the GE circuit to work.

The bridge pickup should go to A1 and A2.

The neck pickup should go to B3 and B4.

Thanks, I think that's how I wired it the first time, in the first pic and I didn't get a signal in the middle position then either, so I think I might have a bad switch. Bought a new switch and re-wiring in a few days.

Re: HH Strat wiring help

If it turned your master tone into a master volume, it sounds like you have the hot from the switch going to one lug of the tone pot and out to the jack from the other lug. On a tone pot, your hot "in-from-switch" and "out-to-jack" should be connected to the same lug so that the pot doesn't affect volume, but just lets the cap take off the highs as the signal passes.

EDIT: Sorry... I posted before I read the whole thread and saw your pic of the wiring. Looks like you had it right and I'm giving you un-needed advice... oops! :smack:

No worries and thanks. Still trying to solve the no signal in the middle/both position but I think a new switch might do it, just haven't done it yet
