Hi Gain Stompbox?? Suggestions??

I am looking to downsize my rig for some smaller gigs That I have, and I am looking to get a higher gain stompbox. I have two ts9's for lower to mid gain applications. I have been looking at the Suhr Riot pedal, Wampler Triplewreck, and the MXR Fullbore. Are there any other suggestions out there? The Suhr and Wampler are really nice but pretty high in price. Thanks guys.

Re: Hi Gain Stompbox?? Suggestions??

I didn't like the fullbore much, don't know about the others.

I did just get a hardwire metal and I really, really like it.

Re: Hi Gain Stompbox?? Suggestions??

If you want to go even higher gain than those pedals, you might consider a fuzz. I just got the new Wampler Leviathan and I love it. Otherwise, another pedal I'd check out is the Subdecay Super Nova Drive. It has a huge range, from mild OD to a grindy distortion, and I really like the way it sounds. When stacked with another OD pedal it gets huge. I stack it sometimes with a Catalinbread WIIO (which is another good dist. pedal if you like pushed Hiwatt sounds). Here's a Youtube link to a review of the Super Nova Drive. Put up with it until sound sample #3 (the "grind n roll" sound)

You might want to check the Barber Dirty Bomb. It's great for classic rock to metal, more of Megadeth stuff. I've tried the Triple Wreck, it's more compressed than the Dirty Bomb and a lot gainier.

Emma has a high gain pedal...can't remember the name of it...but it sounds pretty sweet...as all their stuff does!

edit: here it is...

I hate the Fullbore. I own a Electro Harmonix Metal Muff, which is cool, and the SD twin Tube Mayhem is nice as well.

Re: Hi Gain Stompbox?? Suggestions??

This is not really a metal pedal as such, but the Carl martin Plexitone has a high gain channel on it which has insane level of drive. I really only get this to about 12 o'clock and its good for hard rock to metal depending on the pickup, its also very clear sounding......just not 16year-old scooped mid type tone.

EHX Metal Muff + Top Boost?

I'd get that one instead of the other Metal Muffs just because of the 3 band EQ. Can't live without that.

Also, a Marshall Jackhammer is a good, cheap choice.
Reasonably versatile too, it can do softer overdriven tones as well as get straight into JCM900 flame-throwing territory.
I've got one and I love it.

Re: Hi Gain Stompbox?? Suggestions??

the RatII is cheap and is very versatile, I use it on 1/2 of my recordings, drives my marshall and orange and epiphonevalvejunior amps well

Re: Hi Gain Stompbox?? Suggestions??

I love me a Rat.

Also, on a budget, the Monty Allums Recto Mod for the Boss DS-1 is pretty dang good. It has about as much gain as a normal DS-1, but its EQ is voiced MUCH better. Ask Immortal 6; he owns the first one I built. I missed having it so much, I built another.

If you want a little less squish and a little more whap! a Recto Mod with LEDs in the clipping section would probably be cool, too.

Re: Hi Gain Stompbox?? Suggestions??

I'll second the Blackstar, although I think the HT-Dual is the right pedal for the job.

Any Wampler box would be good if you can afford it. Search Burgermann666 on youtube for heaps of good demo videos of wampler and other brands.
I just got the new Wampler Leviathan and I love it
How is it? Have you got a thread about it .. review? What kind of fuzz sounds does it cover. I am selling my BYOC Big Muff and am looking for something to replace it.

Re: Hi Gain Stompbox?? Suggestions??

Don't get the MXR Fullbore - it's a gritty, grainy, noisy, ugly mess.

I don't know why on earth they thought it'd be a good idea to release that. It seems like the kind of thing that only idiots who know nothing and don't want to learn anything about good tone would buy. I have a few friends who work at music stores and they all agree with me that the Fullbore sounds like crap.

The other suggestions in this thread are muuuuuuuuuch better.
