Hi Lew! Question 4 Ya!

Hi Mr Lew!
Hey I got the APHII Pros the other day! Thanks fer gettin em out. I am SO disapointed about not being able to cover that Tremspaced bridge. I really had the whole look of that strat kinda based around that look. I may just put the trem spaced bridge aside and have you sell me a standard spaced bridge that you can cover for me. How horribly difficult is it to add the covers? I'm asking because if I purchase another covered bridge from you I'll need to cover the neck one you sent me myself.
Whad'ya think?

Re: Hi Lew! Question 4 Ya!

Hi Jim, Installing nickel (or in your case GOLD) covers is fairly easy once you've done it a couple of time. You need a soldering tool with decent wattage and at least a 1/4" tip (not a pencil point), some 1/2" masking tape, some sandpaper and a couple of C clamps or something similar.

1. I put a single strip of 1/2" masking tape inside the cover where the stud polepieces will press against.

2. Then I scuff-sand a 1/2" area on the inside of the cover and on both sides of the pickup baseplate where the soldering blob will be to make soldering easier.

3. Then I slide on the cover and use one clamp (padded so it doesn't scratch) to clamp the cover against the pickup bobbins nice and tight.

4. Then I use the second clamp to press the sides of the cover against the sides of the pickup baseplate nice and tight.

5. Then I solder the cover to the baseplate with two 1/4" to 3/8" blobs of solder...one for each side.

That's about it!

That doesn't sound extremely bad. Do you have a APH-II neck in stock?
Jim

Yep...black or zebra. PM me. Thanks! Lew

Before you go exchanging pickups...MJ from the Duncan custom shop said that trembucker covers would be available later this summer. So if you can wait a little while, you should be able to order one of those.

Thanks Ryan! When and where did you hear about that? That would be sweet. I got to talking to Lew today and I thought I would just get a new bridge, buuuut maybe I will wait. I wonder if anyone else has heard anything.

I emailed the custom shop a while back to ask about having a pickup rewound and covered, and she said that if it was trembucker spaced, I would have to wait until later this summer. Apparently, they're just waiting on a shipment of these covers from their supplier.
