Hi, need some feedback and support

Re: Hi, need some feedback and support

Difficult to know what to say without first knowing the objective of the contest.

I hear lots and lots of notes in search of a melody and no swing. Sorry.

Re: Hi, need some feedback and support

Hi Funkfingers!.
Thank you for taking the time of listen to the video, as for the objective of the contest well they value technique, melodic ideas and overall playing... i tried to do something more melodic but being honest i wasnt be able to do it, didnt good too much ideas for it, so i tried to use uncommon scales and melodies to make it interesting, also is the first time i do record something and i tried to have a good sound and tone too, hope at least have got that haha. Thank you man for your reply!.

Re: Hi, need some feedback and support

Hey Carlos. While I appreciate the chops, It would have been nice to hear an underlying theme in your solo. Maybe sort of outlining the progression a little. My favorite solos, even from chops/over the top type players always tend to build, then sort of go crazy then lay back (listen to Jason Becker's altitudes for a good example). Sort of a tension and release kind of thing. I love to shred as well, but you need to build it, find that jumping off point, go crazy, then lay back again. Also maybe slow down and widen your vibrato just a little (think of dividing the beat when you shake a string, it will give your vibrato more impact/emotion)

That being said, I gave you thumbs up, for using uncommon scales, as well as your tone. You could do with a little more feel. And that's coming from a guy who just released an instrumental rock guitar album. I'm not bashing you, do your thing. I'm just trying to give you a little constructive criticism.

That's the best advice I can give after thirty years of playing. Hope it didn't come off harsh because you DO have knowledge of the fretboard, just refine it.

Re: Hi, need some feedback and support

Hi guitar74, ohhh no is not harsh i really appreciated, that was what i was looking for, some critics... I understand what you said, there's more to improve and you are right!... Did you like the guitar tone?. Thank you!.

Re: Hi, need some feedback and support

I hear \m/\m/!
I heard an underlying theme and the ending was almost "Zappa"ish.

I thought it was pretty rad. Original ideas and plenty of shred. I liked how you harmonized some parts.

Demanic, gibson175,
Thank you guys!!!! gibson175 I'm really glad that you like it! It make me feel better, thank you!!!
What do you think about the tone guys?

Re: Hi, need some feedback and support

Here's the thing: If you like what you did, and you were happy with it, then it doesn't really matter what I think. I gave you a thumbs up because you did some very interesting things, some kind of reminded me of some of the early Slayer stuff I listened to when it wasn't early Slayer, so cool! I liked your use of not so common scales, and the aggression. Like I said, I didn't completely dig everything, but hey, not everybody digs everything 'bout my playing. But still, it was original, interesting, and you have some great fretboard knowledge.

So like I said, don't take any of my critiques too personally. Do your thing, and express how YOU feel. I REALLY dig your tone as well.

Have a great weekend, and keep rockin',

Al

You've got serious chops! I especially liked the whammy bar work. Gave you a thumbs up but you really deserved a \m/

Re: Hi, need some feedback and support

Watched the video.

The Good News: With chops and technique firmly in the Cacaphony/Friedman/Becker camp, the solo is a real thrill ride at times.

The Bad News: As a solo, this video feels like a random collection of shred licks from various Cacaphony and Megadeth albums. It has no cohesion or harmonic center that I could hear and listener fatigue sets in FAST, like after the first jump-cut. The ideas are all there, but instead of being explored, this feels like a grab-bag of 'ain't I great, bet you can't play this' licks.

Lot of talking on this, but nothing is being said.
