High E string noticeably quiet?

Re: High E string noticeably quiet?

Well, it could be the string easily. I don't remember this happening with the first set - then again, maybe i didn't notice it.

But I have broke 2 strings at the saddle for this string also, so regardless, the saddle needs a little TLC

Re: High E string noticeably quiet?

You know, in my case (Strat) I wonder if it's because of the standard spaced bridge pickup and that little biddy E string not being directly over it?

Re: High E string noticeably quiet?

You can raise the pole piece. It doesn't have to be directly over it, but close to the pole.

Re: High E string noticeably quiet?

In my experience, all strings should ring at approximate same volume regardless whether they are treble or bass strings. Either invest in a good bridge and a good nut or replace the quiet string with a new string and see if that fixes the problem. If the string replacement does not work, then it must be the bridge or the nut. The Blackout is a loud pickup, so unless you wired something wrong, it's the components that the string lays on that need to be checked. I had a Dean Vendetta and even though the wood isn't the best it's acoustically loud.

Re: High E string noticeably quiet?

wow I just seen this in my email and have been having the same issue on my 2006 Ibanez RG7321 ( If I dont have a pic on here I will post one I am sure no one has seen one like I put together) I have brand new GraphTech TUSQXL Nut and String Saver Saddles so I doubt highly it would be either of them.
I do have the AHB-1s 7str Phase II Blackouts although my guitar was not set for Phase II I still used stock Mounting holes and Just routed open the PU Cavity so I am fairly sure they are in correct location.
I just put new Dean Markley Blue Steel Custom Gauge Strings on it about 2-3 weeks ago and I only use it maybe 2 times a week as I normally play my 6 string.

I am looking forward to see if you figure it out as I think I broke my first couple High E on my 7 String also when I first got it although at that time it had Stock PU's, Stock Nut and Stock Saddles actually everything was stock LOL .

Since you changed your bridge to the String Saver, you probably won't break any more strings. Stock saddles are notorius for having sharp edges/burs.

Re: High E string noticeably quiet?

Correct, I have not broken a single String since, I am currently waiting for my new Custom Gauge sets to arrive as I decided to go Thicker as I plan to use my 6 String in Dropped C and Dropped D Plus 1/2 Step lower as all of Triviums "In Waves" Songs are in that Tuning according to a Band Member and my current set is to thin to allow me to drop that much and Since my 7 string only has one more string I try to use the same gauge on both that way it enables me to use the sets on either well it makes it alot easier for me but sounds confusing when I try to explain why LOL. I think I may try the Sandpaper Idea under the High E Nut.
DO you think 1000 Grit would be OK or should I use 1500 or 2000 Grit?
