High end/boutique pedals?

Re: High end/boutique pedals?

You have a newish HRD right?
Try this for a strict 2 weeks detox period:

Take away all (that means all!) of your pedals for a couple of weeks.
Guitar - cable - amp.
Just use the knobs on the amp to get three sounds.

1. clean tone - use you volume knob on the axe for clean rhythm/lead. Get used to using the tone knob on your axe.
2. Dirty Rhythm - set the gain to where you like it then back it off by 1 knotch (trust me on this). It will take some getting used to and you may feel a bit uncomfortable initially. Set up your eq just how you like it then back the treble and bass off by one knotch. Turn up your mids by 1 also. You will hate this initially - just stick with it....
Use your volume knob for less crunch when needed.
3. Dirty Lead - just use the inbuilt more gain switch on your HRD.

If you like reverb, set it to your liking on the dirty channel, then back it off by 1 knotch.

Try using your humbucker equipped axe exclusively while you are going thru this detox period.

After 2 weeks, plug in your tele. Begin from the ground up. Set up your 3 sounds the same way as above for the different axe.

After 2 more weeks plug in your big muff or ds1 for a different gain texture (but only if you have completed the 4 weeks of rehearsals with no pedals). You may find that they are no longer crucial.

Dont even look at your modulation and delay pedals for another 2 weeks after that.

Last thing - whatever pick you are using now...get one a bit heavier and pick more lightly.

Hope this makes a difference. Try it, you may find in a few weeks you will start getting compliments on your sound (even from live sound engineers).

Re: High end/boutique pedals?

Where are the High-End/Boutique pedals that you mention in the title?

are you asking for 'butik' pedals to complement your tone?... I doubt that Boss and EHX pedals are considered as butik.

Re: High end/boutique pedals?

tele with texas specials and ther jaguar with the stock humbuckers.

these sound phenomenal through the deluxe though, so im guessing its the pedals. what im looking for is ideas on how tot improve the tone from my pedalboard

In this case, what settings are you using with the DS-2? I always found that the Turbo mode on the pedal sucked for anything that I wanted. It was too middy, too compressed, and had too much gain. If you stick it on mode I with the tone knob between 9 and 1 o'clock, volume slightly boosted and gain between 9 and 3 o'clock there are plenty of good sounds that can be had with that pedal. The pedal seemed to do lead type distortion better than rhythm. I was using it with single coils and humbuckers.

while i get the principle behind this idea, i cant pull it off because my hot rod was purchased used without a footswitch.

Re: High end/boutique pedals?

Then first pedal needed foot switch they are like 25 dollars and pretty necessary for this amp. i had a Hrd I always used the amp drive channel you can get a good tone out of the amp.

 Buy a footswitch!

Seriously, I'll break it down a bit for you because that was what I was going to say. Pick 1 guitar and the amp. Dial in a couple good tones that you could play in your band with. Play a couple days with it Pick a dirt pedal. Play for a few days with it. Add a modulation pedal. Plays for a few days with it. Add another pedal etc. until you find which pedal is not giving you the tone you desire.

BTW, if you are happy with your tone then don't listen to anyone else.

i think i knew where his comment came from. i was trying to use my small stone when i really needed a chorus for a certain song. i think alot of what he heard was me trying to get used to this amp again.

I got y'all. thanks.

Re: High end/boutique pedals?

If you are looking for a distortion sound in the vein of Dinosaur Jr. then you need a Fuzz Face instead of a distortion or OD pedal.

Re: High end/boutique pedals?

Try $400. Great pedals, the Kasha ODP is a cheaper version at $200, but they don't have a level knob which may or may not work for you. In the price range there are lots more to look at.

Nothing wrong with a DS-2, if it is the sound you are looking for.

If you are looking for "Marshall-y" sounds, the Lovepedal Superlead at GC looks like a good deal, but again, there are lots of choices...

yeah that 250.00 guess was a little off the mark.....g.c...had one the other day at 350 bucks...not cheap...dont know what they sound like, just thought it was a cool pedal to try out when pedal shopping.
