High-Gain Distortion Pedal Shopping..

My tastes have gone High-Gain lately, and my AVT150's distortion isn't cutting it anymore.

Could someone make some suggestions for some High-Gain pedals for me to look at? I don't ride too many chunky fifths, so I'm not looking for an all rhythm distortion stomp. I like the distortion to be "searing," with great harmonics and a good cut. Thickness is necessary, but not so bassy and thick that I can't pop a lead. Well balanced may be the term I'm looking for. I like the Rectifier tone, but don't want the pedal to sound too "solid state." But nevertheless, it should be High-Gain.

I will be playing with a PRS CE 22 loaded with Custom/Jazz.

you're new here so I wil cut you a little slack, but rest assured I am about to give you one of the best answers you will get to this question!

Go and set a Boss DS-1, and send it to out fellow forum brother Stratdeluxer97 and get it "modded for tone", you will be for far less money that you will spend anywhere else, and the tone you get is worth at least 5 times as much as it will cost!

Do a search on the forum for more info, or go to www.harmony-central.com I posted a review of his DS-1 mod, it is a great pedal!

Good luck!

Re: High-Gain Distortion Pedal Shopping..

Or just buy the Spina (Stratdeluxer) mod DS-1 I have for sale in the Trading Post right now :laugh2:.

I would definitely recommend John's work, or perhaps a Visual Sound Jekyll & Hyde.

Re: High-Gain Distortion Pedal Shopping..

What tone are you after; a british metal tone or a "modern" scooped tone?

I'd reccomend the Tonebone Hot British for the "british" tone, wonderful pedal! As a matter of fact i'm getting one as soon i get some money ;)

Re: High-Gain Distortion Pedal Shopping..

Try a Rocktron Rampage it will eat those "Modded" DS-1's for breakfast and cost a whole lot less!!!!!

Re: High-Gain Distortion Pedal Shopping..

If you're prepared to go to this money then the G2D Morpheus is the ultimate high-gain pedal I've ever tried. Huge breadth of great tones. Plus it has a built in adjustable noise gate where you set the threshhold.

wow that does sound pretty good actually and i tend to hate tone frome distortion pedals....hmmm and it glows in that dark lol, what's not to like hahaha.

now it's a tossup b/t that and a damage control demonizer for me to use with my marshall.

+1. and you cant get them new anymore. out of production.

Re: High-Gain Distortion Pedal Shopping..

Why does mesa always discontinue everything?!?!?!?

I have a Hot British. Really good pedal. I find it a little buzzy/fuzzy sometimes, though. Something I don't find from a Mesa or Marshall. Have you guys experiened that?

Re: High-Gain Distortion Pedal Shopping..

hmmm the G2D Morpheus sounds pretty cool....

does anyone have clips of the Mesa V-Twin pedal?

Re: High-Gain Distortion Pedal Shopping..

buy the Spina DS-1 . you're happy, fretfire is happy. we all become one big happy family.

Re: High-Gain Distortion Pedal Shopping..

I'm not digging the sound clips of the Hot British at all. I think they just sound like a bad dirt box.

Re: High-Gain Distortion Pedal Shopping..

I think you should get an amp with better gain than the AVT150.
As for a great distortion pedal, I like the HomeBrew Electronics Big D and BroTech Fat Pipe Pro. :)
