My most recent acquisition is astonishingly close to a high gain amp.
Any of the AMT Legend Amps series but in particular the Legend 2 Series would be something if interest. The 1 series are preamps designed for direct recording or direct to PA and can also be connected to an amp's effect return. They have a pretty convincing speaker emulated output too.
The Legend 2 Series has all those capabilities but in addition to the 2 line level outputs has an instrument level output for going into the front of the amp.
I find the S2 is about as close as you'll get to a Soldano without buying one.
