High Gain Meas Amp- Duncan Distortion Or Duncan Alt 8

I just installed a Ducand Distortion on my 2011 Gibson Les paul custom. Nice gain and sizzle but lost my LOW END THUMP. I play a High Gain Meas Amp-I called Symour and they said go with the Duncan Alt 8.

What do you guys think?:onder:

You want the SH-5 Custom. It's lows are downright chest-crushing but still tight. Fat, warm AND defined. Very good for Metal.

But first, I'd suggest to

a) turn up the bass on the amp

b) play around with the pu height. You shouldn't have the Distortion too close to the strings. Try to lower it a bit and the raise the pole pieces on the bass side.

If none of these options gives you what you want, get a Custom.

The Alt 8 will give you tons of low mids but not the low end thump you're after. It also lacks presence and aggression and is looser than the DD. It also has more dynamics than you possibly want so if you don't wanna beat the sh*t out of your guitar to get the heaviness you want, get the Custom.

I find this a bit odd. I get tons of lowend chunk out of my distortion. It is in a Jackson soloist into a 5150. I say play with you settings. Or go for blackouts

I have an Alt 8 with my Mark V and I completely dislike it. As Chuck said it lacks aggression and presence. The Mark V is probably the tightest amps and it sounds loose with that pickup. I have used it in 4 different tunings hoping for something to cure this and it fails. I will say it is good for making my Mark sound less tight when playing Mastodon stuff but it just lacks the cut needed to play most things.
