I made another vid just now.
This time using the Marshall JVM and tuning the Gibson to Drop B

I preferred the Manowar compared to the last clip in this one. However, it was still not my preference. In here, I liked the DV-77. Are all speakers the same ohms? That also makes a difference. As well as what impedance the amp was set to.

But I liked thed the DV-77 here as well as the Swamp Thang.

Agreed, I used only the top speakers in this video too.
And the Manowar didn't sound honky at all this time.
I like them all with this amp and settings, but I love the K100 and DV77 just a touch more in this application, they just sound mean!

All speakers are 16 ohm.

T75 and the Swamp Thang for me. Man you have such a great tone, well done! May I ask few questions?
- How did the t75 sound in the room, did it feel too bright?
- Why East River Drive instead a tube screamer? How do they compare EQ wise?

Interesting that the Celestions seem to have an upper-mid presence lacking in the Eminence. I felt like the DV77 was the tightest, but I think I liked the Swamp Thang as well.

For what it's worth, this type of video is absolutely how comparisons should be done. No talking, only one variable, and a short enough clip so that my tone memory doesn't fade significantly from one speaker to the next. Excellent job.

The ERD is a Tube Screamer clone. It's cheaper, though, and is well built. So I assume that's why.

I've never A/B'd it with my TS808, but I used to have one when I also had the Maxon OD9 (TS9 with the output buffer removed), and it was a tad warmer than the Maxon, but the output level was also a smidge quieter. But in the grand scheme of things, yeah... the ERD is a Tube Screamer.

T-75'S, until very recently (when I drop tuned everything all the time), have always been my favorite speaker. I don't feel they are overly bright at all. Esp. compared to the V30. They sit right in the middle for me. I still use them to record quite often... Maybe it's because the tones are familiar to me, maybe it's because those speakers are just plain great.

The EHX East River drive ( for me ) has given the best tonal characteristics I have ever heard. It IS a TS clone pretty much.

I've been through a good dozen of the latest and greatest and also vintage OD pedals and although this one flavors the tone with a small hint of its own ... "something" ....that "something" to me is just perfect! I can hear it when I play and especially when I record. Something about this pedal just tickles my ears.
I have to force myself to try other pedals... But I always go back.
Something in the high mids maybe?

Thanks so much! I feel the same way, when I listen to speaker vids...or amp vids... Or pickup vids... I just want to compare the tones and keep the producers opinions out of it for the most part.
So that's why I make mine short and sweet. ( And also I hate to see and hear myself talking.. )

Got me thinking a little bit..... I think in most OD pedals there is a touch more compression than the EHX, and I hear a "Zhuh" kind of sound whereas the ERD is a little more organic? Coming off chugs giving a snarly "Chonk" kind of "Goawrrrrr" nuance thing that I can't find anywhere else. That's the reason I use it both home, studio, and on the road pretty much exclusively. It's a nuance thing.

I also have decided that when I play in std tuning or drop D, the differences are less significant. The 805 is perfect for that, as are many others.... But as we almost exclusively play Drop B now, the differences in OD pedals, strings, pickups, speakers, all stand out more prominently. That's my own opinion as far as my own tone goes anyhow.

I didn't have the ERD for long, but I remember it being a bit more "open" than my TS808. A bit more going on down low and up high and less compressed. I mean... as far as mid-focused squishy Tube Screamers go, right? It's a touch more transparent than a TS808 IIRC. Kind of like an OD808.

AFAIK, circuit-wise, I remember reading it's pretty much a straight up TS808 clone that's true bypass. But yeah, I agree. It does have a slightly different mojo compared to an Ibanez TS, while still being very familiar if you're used to those.

I'm a huge Tube Screamer nerd if you can't tell, LOL.

I like the Eminence.....
Look at the different preference in Speaker choices.... Great tone is in the ear of the beholder.
