High gain pickup hybrid: Custom/Distortion...

I'd think that the mismatched coil could bring a lot of 'hidden' character to the pickup, maybe more singing leads due to more frequencies being present. The pickup would be bright and mid rangy so should cut through a mix pretty well like the Custom for instance, and keep its tightness in the bass.

Now the question is, would this be worth it? Are the pickups different enough to produce something really new?
Also, has anyone tried it?

The other ideas I had would be a FullShred/Distortion hybrid as I believe the FS with Ceramic magnet and the Custom are fairly similar. So FullShred hex screw coil, and Distortion slug coil. Should be tighter than a Custom/Distortion, and maybe even more midrangy, especially on the high mids. With an A5 magnet I'm thinking it could REALLY be worth it too, tightening up the JB's highs, keeping the crunch and very present bass, with more singing leads.

Has anyone tried any of these?

And a couple of pickups too :laugh2: I don't have a Distortion, and I'd have to try on some dummies first, I'm worried :D

All this talk about hybrids is starting to get dangerous for my Dirty Fingers and Silverbird (though I don´t think you could ever find 2 more mismatched PUs and don´t really think that´s a good idea....:D)
