High Gain SLO Influenced Amplifier Build Log For misterwhizzy

Re: High Gain SLO Influenced Amplifier Build Log For misterwhizzy

That looks awesome mate.

Hopefully I'll get chance to play it :D

Hopefully you'll be able to buy it too :D

That looks awesome mate, as always! :friday:

Hopefully I'll get to try it before you move it on.

Well you know where I am!

This one has turned out quieter than mine even though its still a bit messy. I'm going to tidy it up after doing the RATT clips and then put it up for sale.

Tonally it's pretty much the exact same other than the mods to make the bass controls more usable and fine tuning the output section which made it a touch punchier but not by a massive margin the core tone itself is pretty much exact.

I know you'll like it...

:D :friday:

I listened to the first clip on the Soundcloud page, and it sounds great. The amp has a seriously phenomenal tone.

Now around 0:20, you start with some gallops, and they seem to run together just a bit. Is this a function of the amp, e.g. a tiny bit of lowend looseness, or is it double tracking that's just slightly out of sync, or is it just my lousy ears?

Please don't take it as criticism, because you're a much better player than I am, and this whole thread is great. I just want to know what I'm hearing.

On that one inparticular tge bass track is a vsti and it.makes things all.sound a bit.loose and boomy.

Cool. Again, it sounds great. I just wanted to know what was going on with that segment, because it seemed to have cleaned up about ten seconds later.

Re: High Gain SLO Influenced Amplifier Build Log For misterwhizzy

I just looked through the whole thread again, and I don't think you ever mentioned the power tube type. Is it EL34 based, or is it 6L6 or 5881 or something?

DANG! That amp sounds awesome. I dig the tone in the RATT clip. You did good, man.

Re: High Gain SLO Influenced Amplifier Build Log For misterwhizzy

In this particular amp it has Sovtek 5881's but as I said earlier you can put pretty much anything that's octal in and rebias and the amp will handle it with no issues.

Great thread! You're definitely a valued forum member here....I love when new members have something of quality to offer, and you definitely bring a lot to the plate with a Soldano build WITH PICS AND CLIPS!

I've seen a few of those boards on Ebay...from Russia I think. I figured it was more than I'm willing to bite off, so I'm glad to see someone like you giving me an idea of what's involved.

One question... After adding up every single part spent on the build, and calculating it in US dollars, what kind of money are we talking? Man hours aside, what does a Soldano SLO cost in parts? They cost a freaking fortune at retail.
