High Voltage set for a Les Paul?

Concerns: Designed for use on SGs, which are known to be more mid-heavy than Les Pauls, could it sound too bright or brittle ? It has less low-end than Pearly Gates according to site info. Would it be a one trick pony, only good for piercing solos and not much good for rhythm playing?
At any rate there is not a lot of discussion on the forum on this set, I don't think some more talking would be needless. Experience and ideas shared will be appreciated.

Re: High Voltage set for a Les Paul?

Good question- I've heard them in an LP once. But I wasn't playing, and the person who was playing was playing mostly southern rock, so it wasn't really a good test. But it sounded good to me. Being a Custom Shop item, I don't know how many are in the wild, or who on this board might have them. Cut that down further, since most people who buy them would put them in an SG. Hopefully someone who has tried will come forward.

Thanks for the kind answer Mincer. If it is simply wiser to get the Pearly Gates set since it won't make a huge difference anyway, I would take that as a valid answer as well. Just that the idea of sounding like Angus is enticing, obviously.

Well, I really think there isn't much to the Angus sound...aggressive playing with fairly vintage equipment. I think the PGs are a valid choice in an LP, but so is the Whole Lotta Humbucker set. I wouldn't go hotter than that.
