Hipshot Tremsetter

I'm having a bit of trouble setting my tremsetter. Well, at least I think it's the tremsetter. My Strat has Schaller locking machineheads, Wilkinson roller-nut, and US standard trem. When I use the trem in anger, the low E string ends up sharp, and throws out the rest of the tuning. It's very frustrating. I've tried to use the 2 bits of info I got with the guitar, but the problem remains. Any ideas? Perhaps there is a trick or tip for setting them up. Any help would be gratefully received. :grumble: :help: :argh: :argh: :argh:

Your problem is not the trem setter, its the heavy wanking on the bar. I had a trem setter a few years ago and I didnt notice any benefits from using it. It just made the trem really stiff to use. Most any guitar will go a little out of tune with heavy wanking.

just grease the crap out of your nut, and do this little trick i always do when i get new strings.

When i first restring, i slowly tune a bit more than half a step sharp. I leave my guitar sharp like this overnight so the strings stretch. The strings stretch and loosen so that the next morning they are settled at around standard tuning. This helps ensure that the strings are evenly stretched and wont have any thin stressed spots.

I had one and it seemed to cause more problems than it solved and never seemed to work quite the way it was supposed to. I had a tech check it out and he said I'd set it up perfectly but the damn thing kept wandering out of adjustment and the locks kept slipping and eventually the main pushrod on it became bent from the pressure that was necessary to lock the damn thing in the first place?

Has anyone used an Ibanez Backstop before? Vai's got them in his Jems and judging by his performance they seem to work well... l)

It's frustrating, because I borrowed a Heartfield Talon off a friend a couple of years back, and that had a Tremsetter. I really liked the way that 1 performed and it's tuning was was solid, so it's come as a bit of a disappointment that the 1 on my Strat is causing problems.
