Hiwatt Tube Overdrive Pedal

Re: Hiwatt Tube Overdrive Pedal

REALLY??????

Guys over on The Gear Page RAVE about the Sugarcones, esp. with a Fuchs amp

Are those the ones they refer to as "Purplebacks" ?

Yea, I know. Makes me wonder how many of these internet forum jockeys are just dreamers. But I can tell you that they were the undisputed least favorite at the Vintage HIWATT convention. I lost several hundred $$$ on that cab, but it was worthless to me as it sounded so weak.

They do have a purple decal. They are the Reeves Vintage Purples.

I have a few HIWATT 4x12's with vintage Fanes.
1972 SE4122 with #122142 fanes
1974 SE4122 with #122142 fanes (stamped frame)
1974 SE4123 with #122231 cast frame fanes
1978 SE4123 with #122231 stamped frames. This cab was owned by Jesse Valenzuela of the Gin Blossoms and is the Favorite at the Vintage HIWATT Conventions. It just sounds Freaking Great!

I can tell you that the Reeves VP's sound exactly as a Vintage Fane should. Far better then the new production Fanes used by HIWATT. I have had them too and sold them off.

I too know guys that swear by old HIWATT cabs with other amps.

One secret is the wood runners on the bottom of the cab instead of rubber feet or castors.
Another is no feet or wood strips at all.

Re: Hiwatt Tube Overdrive Pedal

Well, that's good to know & I'm glad I didn't give up on my G12-65s in lieu of the Sugarcones :bigthumb:
