That said I can't really answer the poll as I haven't played either. From the impressions I've got and the tones I've heard I believe I'd prefer the HiWatt but I'd probably love the VHT too. I may very well go for a VHT some time soon to see them out as there's been a few popping out on the used market with reasonable prices. HiWatts are much more rare, so I can't really hope to get to buy one. I don't think I've ever seen one for sale here.

I used Hiwatt on a very regular basis for about 15 yrs, good time that was!
Have not used the VHT, but just this very evening, a friend was talking about them in a positive manner.

One of my biggest dreams would be to crank a Hiwatt 400 fullstack in my livingroom. I guess that's the equivalent of other people wanting to drag race an american muscle car.

Make sure you get a real one made by Hylight electronics. The new In Name Only HIWATTs don't hold a candle to the real deal.

VHT, Love the tone of hiwatts but the VHT and a Les Paul is pretty much all i ever need.
