i've been down at the store today, cos they are going to get new amps soon.
the only ones that looked good there were a 6505 (wasnt pluged in.. going to check it out next time)
and a framus dragon..
i played it with a dean hardtail (korean - what pups does it have? they sounded horrible!)
and a MM petrucci, with 3 year old strings and in terrible need of a setup.. anyway
i played through the dragon for like an hour, fiddling with the controls and switching through channels..
1st impression.. damn, it sounds like crap (it was played through a 6505 cab) .. so i thought why not put the master higher and fiddle with that a little..
so i did. to 10. crunch & lead chanel volumes were at 5, both gain maxed at that point.
and i was sitting 3ft away from it..
then it kinda came to me that there has to be something very wrong with the amp, cos that is frickin stadium volume !! it's a 100W tube amp for christs sake!
along with the fact that it wasnt loud, it had a pretty flabby low end and it sounded thin (probably because of the petrucci pickups and old strings) the top end was pretty harsh too..
soooo.. what do you guys think could be wrong with that one?
they had it for like 400 euro less than the one on thomman.de
http://www.thomann.de/de/framus_dragon.htm
that in itself is kinda weird cos now they got pretty much the same prices.
hopefully i can give the 6505 a run next week, with my axe.
