Frito's Better Half
Alright, on my mandolin, the bass strings are "thuddy". They dont resonate well. I'm thinking of doing something I saw a slide guitarist do in Dan E's guitar player repair guide. Should I make grooves in the saddle where the D and G strings are and replace the grooves that I cut out with deer antler? I know it'll brighten up the sound and make the bass strings stand out more than they are now, but I'm not so sure it'll be worth the effort.

Re: hmmm....I gots an idear

Depending on the density of the antler, it should work. Personally, I would do this with a replacement bridge, that way, if you don't get it quite right, or don't like the results, you can always just go back to your stock bridge.

That's a good idea, but this is a 60 dollar mandolin, so I aint too worried about it.
