Hohner g3t : question

always SD

New member
hi
i have a black model but it's an old one and with problems

i can have a grey one but will it sound the same?

the same sound or not ? the body wood is the same : maple

Re: Hohner g3t : question

It should sound about the same- at least the same as 2 different Strats do. I used to have a Steinberger Spirit, which was made in the same factory as your Hohner.

Re: Hohner g3t : question

i have this
i have some very good sounds : strat and a lot of gain and harmonics
but
the tremolo (vibrato) and the intonation are not good
it's an old and used one from the 80's lol
url

so, i can have this

rsz.php

i will put : EMG SAV x2 +EMG85
the same pickups than i have in the black guitar

i can buy a boost EMG ?or another thing
do you know what EMG makes like boost or other ?

i have the Steinberger spirit deluxe in H S H : the sounds was horrible
very bad and so dark
so i put sh1 + vintage rails+splits+ sh4 and now it's a good guitar
the clean sound is not amazing but with some gain, it's good
the vibrato is good too

the HOhner is a very good guitar
solid body
the price is higher than the Spirit Steinberger

it's a better guitar than the Spirit
look for a G3T and you will have very good clean sounds and amazing sh4 if you change pickups
very easy to play with 9-42

Hohner and Steinberger are different
but Hohner had a licence for tremolo

Correct. The licensed twangbar was constructed from poor materials. The fret positioning on those headless GT and Jack models from the Nineties could be very hit 'n' miss.

Re: Hohner g3t : question

it was not good because it is a very old guitar (80's) but if i can have a recent model, the problem will be resolved: )

I want to say that new models like Steinberger spirit have not a good sound (dark without changing pickups) but the intonation and vibrato are good
no problem if it is a brand new
the only thing to do is to change the pickups

the G3T has a better sound with real EMG
i have these guitars but my question was about the body

for example: a les paul flamed top won't sound like a another les paul (less expensive)
i am not sure that's why i am not sure about the sound of 2 - 3 G3T :)
or i must look for a black model :)

look at this
hohner-grt-oil-finish-full-front.jpg

= 3 colors for this guitar
but the same sound ?

Re: Hohner g3t : question

Apart from the fingerboard, the stripped GT-3 in the photograph is all maple. The two outer sections of the neck appear to be of a lighter colour than the rest of the instrument because the grain is running in a different direction. Building a neck from three pieces and having one in opposition to the other two is intended to prevent warping and/or twisting.

The dark and lifeless amplified sound of stock examples is largely to do with the Select-by-EMG pickups. These are notoriously lacking in character.

The colour of the paint makes no difference to the sound.

Re: Hohner g3t : question

thanks

and Hohner told me the same: the sound is the same even if there are 3 models

i can add a EMG boost with a luthier

The Synapse models have Humbucker but i don't really know how it sounds like : no split, no single coil
and clean sound is important too to have a versatile guitar

Re: Hohner g3t : question

Possibly.

Q1) How much space is there in the control cavity?
Q2) How much use do you make of the tone control?

I find that the EMG-VLPF does not do enough to justify having it in a guitar. The earlier EMG 25k passive treble roll off control isn't much better - unless I change the capacitor to a .047 or .033uF.

On my Ibanez and Charvel EMG-equiped, two pot guitars, I dropped the tone control in favour of the EMG-SPC midrange booster.

On the headless Höhner, you could have one of several variable boosters or the straightforward switchable type.

Re: Hohner g3t : question

the guitar i may have is the grey one

i like very much the SAV but i like both worlds: ) = strat+humbucker

the SAV is perfect or clean tones from mark Knopfler to Stevie ray
it's amazing but i prefer this to a Fender pickup
(it's not the same guitar too)

think about what Lukather did with his SLV signature pickups

Q1) How much space is there in the control cavity? LIKE A SINGLE COIL, LIKE A EMG SINGLE COIL SA _ SAV _ SLV
Q2) How much use do you make of the tone control? I CAN USE IT SOMETIMES FOR TONES LIKE SANTANA _ SLASH, just for a some moments, that's true

2 knobs may have push-pull ?

-the EMG-SPC midrange booster. : is like a TBX Clapton ?

Re: Hohner g3t : question

it seems that the SLV kit (Lukather ) does not need a boost
but
i can have

EMG PA2 Preamp/Booster

EMG SPC

EMG Afterburner

Re: Hohner g3t : question

I use a Synapse, and with the right pickups, it is amazing. I put SDs in, and use a Super Switch to split them in certain positions. Much better than any Spirit or Hohner I've played.

Re: Hohner g3t : question

hi: )
i have never played with a synapse but it's possible it's the best with the zt3

why i have not bought a Synapse yet?
because, i really don't know how it sounds. i am talking about the clean tones
no split
no ssh or hsh

so? had you some good clean tones with EMG 81 85 or 60 maybe?
because i have an EMG 85 and it's not for clean tones whereas the SAV are amazing

and second, this guitar is a baritone so, different tuning
and if you want to play like a standard, you must put a capo at the 2e fret
it is another way to play guitar and i don't know if this will be easy

Re: Hohner g3t : question

It isn't a baritone. It is a standard guitar. You are thinking of the TransScale version. Also, I never liked the way EMGs sound, so they didn't last long in the guitar. With passive pickups, you can wire them to split with the right 5 way switch or a push pull pot.

Re: Hohner g3t : question

You are referring to the EMG SL-20 set.

The EMG-SLV is a specific replacement pickup design for Stratocaster, combining the rod magnet polepieces of the -SAV with the mid boosted pre-amp of the -SA. It works perfectly well with any of the EMG accessories mentioned in post #10. I use mine with an -SPC in an old Charvel Model 3.

i thought you had the transcale version.
i looked for a guitar with vibrato when i wanted this kind of guitars too

Re: Hohner g3t : question

The EMG-SPC is an active boosting device that increases mid range frequencies and subtly reduces high frequencies. The theory is that it changes the sound from a Stratocaster-style active pickup to be more like a humbucker. The EMG accessory occupies less space than the Fender Clapton MDX kit. On the other hand, the Fender device offers more actual boost.

On my guitars, the standard EMG tone control is pretty well redundant. Instead, I have the -SPC to increase the midrange of, variously, EMG-H, -SA -SLV and -HA pickups. I am attempting to emulate the David Gilmour mid-Eighties to late Nineties sound.

Re: Hohner g3t : question

Synapse models have very good and it seems that the clean sounds are bright

problem : i wanted a vibrato

so, we have 2 choices: gt pro with Emg = good

spirit with his good vibrato but a cheap guitar even if we change pickups

and that's all
