Holdsworth Pickup

Re: Holdsworth Pickup

my SDUGF day custom pickup was a CC with trem spacing and a double row of screws

still havent gotten around to installing it in my 540s 'cus i like the C5 in there too much

i was hoping for something that would give me the full mids and rounded off highs like holdsworth

Re: Holdsworth Pickup

his current sound, in the DeLap guitars (like the clip above)...is he actually using SD Holdsworth pickups? I was under the impression he hadn't used them since Ibanez had a Holdsworth guitar model (mid 80s??).
And, I am guessing it must be ok for both SD and Carvin that they each offer a Holdsworth pickup. I am guessing these are not exclusive deals.

A side note: I know Carvin worked on a headless Holdsworth model, but dropped it. A shame, because I might actually consider it then.

Re: Holdsworth Pickup

The new DeMartini custom shop pickup is a JB with an Alnico 2 magnet, no?

its actually like an overwound jb with an alnico II, where the holdsworth is like a jb wind with an alnico II and double screws. believe me there is always extra something in the cs stuff. take a floor 59b and a cs 59b and youll hear a difference, call it mj's and seymours magic hands or whatever you want but everything ive gotten from the custom shop has always had a little extra something.

as far as if allen uses it i have no idea. i believe that he had one in his red charvel

Re: Holdsworth Pickup

The Carvin versions have A5 mags in them...they call them "aged" A5...supposed to be more mellow like an A2, but on bends up around the 10th fret, the high mids would just take over on my Ibanez. Not the kind of rounded tone I like...I favor Ampeg amps over Fender, for example...the Seths have much more low mid, and make that guitar a lot darker, but not muddy.
