Let me see what i need to know here. Is the Vibrolux a 4 ohm amp? If i do decide to replace the speakers, would one of the Weber speakers be a better choice than the Italian Jensens?
Yes and yes.

The Weber speaker that Ted used to call a C10Q is almost identical to the old Jensen C10N. Get two of those. lew

Thanks, Puck. We need to have a Florida Jam once i learn how to play:laugh2: I found out what the CTS speakers are. They were apparently one of the AlNiCo speaker offered in the Lux, JBL D110 being the other (I think). Weber recommends either the 1.25 or 1.5 inch voice coil speakers as replacements both in AlNiCo and ceramic. Since this is a 40 watter, i wouldn't be sure whether to use the 25 or 50 watters.

get a pair of Weber 10F125's cnd call it a day...the 30 watt versions will have a slightly smoother treble but the 20 watters sound killer too.

Re: Holy Blackface, Batman!!!!!!

Where do you live? I lived in Miami from 68-88. Got the hell out of their when it was at its worse, but now I can't afford to go back now that it has gotten nice again. :laugh2:

Re: Holy Blackface, Batman!!!!!!

Hey Lew, I know Christian doesn't care for the Weber 12s....you??

What would you recommend for a '66 Pro Reverb?

I've got a G12H30/V-30 sitting idle & I'm gonna try that out.....

Sorry for the hijack JDM :beerchug:

Re: Holy Blackface, Batman!!!!!!

That is one of the models that Weber recommends, Christian. I have those two Weber 10's but they are 16 ohm speakers wired up for an 8 ohm load for a Deluxe, so I can't use them without putting in a Mercury or comparable multi-tap OT and those cost as much as a new pair of Weber 10's. Plus it might mess with the Lux tone, ya know. These CTS AlNiCo's might do the trick. Seems to me that you have to pay a pretty heavy premium for the AlNiCo speakers from Weber as compared to the ceramics. All of the 10's I saw were around $85 per unit for ceramic.

Re: Holy Blackface, Batman!!!!!!

Puck. I want to come down and check out the real estate opportunities on the finges of that urban renewal project in Riviera Beach. I may be too late though, assuming that it goes through as planned. Even Viking Yachts is talking about turning their service center and marina into a condo project. It sits right north of the WPB/Riviera Beach line north of the old Rybovich-Spencer yard that the Huizengas bought.

In the 10's the price is not too far part...example a 12F125 costs $85 a 12A125 costs $95...when you get into the 12's it's a bigger jump from ceramic to alnico.

Weber also suggests the 10F125 and that is way too much speaker for a Vibrolux...get the 12F125's trust me on that!

I have not tried the Weber 12's but when I asked Lew about them he told me he didn't care for them and when Iasked Bruce he said they were "ok"...that tells me all I need to know about them!

I trust Lew and Bruce both very much...neither of them has done me wrong yet and so far the advice I have gotten from noth of them has been killer...

I might try a set of Weber 12's one day but not any time soon.

Re: Holy Blackface, Batman!!!!!!

Yup...I'm familiar with it. I used to work at Rybovich (long long ago  ).

I would imagine it's too late to get in on the bottom, but you can still get in there. There's enough crime in that city to keep the prices down for a while.

Atleast until the big money really starts rolling in.

Anyway, you're always welcome...I work a good BBQ :bigthumb:

Did you work there when Mike Matlack was there? i am still steamed about what happend there. Huizenga bought it, said he was converting to glass construction and then closed the yard. I don't know if they are planning to produce elsewhere. i thnk Ryco should get the family name back. Mike and Marty are still building wood boats and Rybo's should be wood......as should Merritts, but they have been plastic for a few years now....yuck!!!!!:laugh2:

Re: Holy Blackface, Batman!!!!!!

The Rybo is a beautiful boat...I wanted one for years; now it's guitars & amps :D

Re: Holy Blackface, Batman!!!!!!

especially since you could get at least 150-200 '59 Les pauls for the price of one of the last 60 foot Rybo's:chairfall Or one '59 and a nice medium sized night club to play it in:banana:

Re: Holy Blackface, Batman!!!!!!

Regarding Ted Weber's 12's: I like his 10" speakers alot more.

Ted has a little problem with cone cry in his 12's and when he damps the 12 speaker heavily to avoid cone cry that also makes for a less responsive speaker.

I don't think Ted has it as together with his 12's as he does his 10's.

Not saying they're no good though...only that his 10's are better.

I've owned quite a few Weber 12's and Ted used to send me prototype 12's but I was hard to satisfy so he stopped asking me for advice.

When it comes to 12's I'm a Celestion guy.
