Holy Crap PRS have ditched the wrapover

Re: Holy Crap PRS have ditched the wrapover

Yeah right Hunter. I'll believe that when I see it.

I've seen it.

So have I. I have one American example and one Korean. They both work perfectly with 009, 0095 or 010 gauge strings.

The wraparound bridges were one of my favorite things about PRS. What the heck are they thinking? It's a step backwards.

Apparently, not everybody gets the wrapover bridge or, of course, Paul Smith's historical interest in the Gibson Les Paul Junior and Special guitars that inspired his own career.

That stoptail is ugly as heck- looks like a pack of velamints (I'm dating myself here). It's very square and IMO clashes with the look of the Guitar. The wrap around looks a lot better/has cleaner lines. But I def prefer the feel and adjustability of a TOM.

Sweetwater has a bunch of the SC protoypes with this tailpiece

I agree, that square is UGLY! BTW, Velamints were yummy!

The coolest thing in this thread is already in your sig. That's an awesome quote.

IKNORITE?? By the way, just you feel free to steal it for, ya know, whatever, maybe a Facebook page or something...

Oh, well thank you. I shall consider perhaps using that quote for a facebook update at some time in the future which would occur chronologically after receiving your permission, as is the social norm.

Dude, it's Plato. I'm pretty sure it's in the public domain by now.

And you're welcome. :cool2:

DoB's next album = "Temple of the Muses"

soso's next solo album = "Bungler"

Re: Holy Crap PRS have ditched the wrapover

I wonder if people think it's ugly because they haven't seen it as normal for 50 years.
If you think about it, the rounded/squared edges sort of mirror the nickel pickups.
And it's different enough from Gibson to avoid another infringement case.

No matter what, I still think one of Paul Reed Smith's greatest assets was Ted McCarty's valuable input. He basically helped Mr. Smith fine tune his designs. Ted was a young Gibson President. Too bad he wasn't a little younger when he met PRS....his influence would have been very valuable nowadays......he passed away around the time the Singlecut came out.

Re: Holy Crap PRS have ditched the wrapover

For about the last year all SC245's have had adjustable wrapovers I think PRS have realised that with a 24.5" scale you can't get the intonation as spot on as you can with the 25" (Martin found that in the 70's when they used non adjust bridges on their electric guitars before they gave up on them.)
I still wish Paul would use the non trem version of his trem bridge more at the moment it is only on the Mike Mushok baritone.

Is this really the case?

There are PRS SC McCarty's (SC245 McCarty), which have the regular McCarty type wraparound bridges and 24.5" scale:

Yeah, I'd say that the Singlecut w/TuneOmatic bridge is probably my favorite guitar PRS has ever made.

You need another maple/mahogany double bucker single cut guitar like I need another hole in my head!

True. With rare exceptions, I'm pretty much done buying guitars. I won't be buying any more PRS guitars.

The guitars I'm playing most right now are the SG Diablo, ES-335, and a Strat with Surfer Custom/Surfers.

Looks like they are attempting a hostile takeover of the Les Paul market. It doesn't need a pick guard to resemble a Les Paul. Scale length, 2 vol/2tone, pickup selector switch, stop tail... Sweet looking guitar too. I want one.

Notice how I haven't posted anything in this thread. Because I don't have anything positive or informative to add on this topic.
