Holy Crud, whta the heck did I just buy these for??

Re: Holy Crud, whta the heck did I just buy these for??

Found out a little more about this. What I bought, the amp, is the guts out of a 50 watt 4x6l6 60's Teisco Del Ray Japanese Tube amp called the "KIng". It was their tube Flagship model. The cabinet it cane in ( the amp was bottom mounted and the controls wrere top mounted) had 4x6l6's and put out 50 watts RMS.
I had not intended to buy the amp, but I liked the Old Teisco Stereo GHuitar tube preamp i had won that was the mate to the amp. Presumably the Stereo tube preamp was ,to be run with 2 of the 2x15 cabinets ( 400 Lbs of equipment , jack!), so I went whole hog and got the amp that was being listed at the same time by the same seller.

And heres the only other thing I could find on the 60's Teisco "King";
http://www.guitar-museum.com/guitar-20283-1960ES-TEISCO-DEL-REY-KING-AMPLIFIER-TUBE-TYPE-WORKING

It clearly shows the amp I bought bottom mounted on the 2x15 cabinet from th Teisco factory. Its the same amp -just the guts- that I just paid 102 dollars + shipping for , except someone cut the cage in mine, which I can mend.

The thing about the old setereo tube preamp I bought mentioned in the previous threads, is that you dont really see too many stereo tube vintage guitar preamps , so Im kind of happy , cause I can Get two ofthe same guitar amps, or maybe something like a peavey ( god forbid) stereo tube amp and my stereo Lynch cabinet and ping pong delay and get swirling stereo trem and choruse effects all day long!...

Id all goes well I'll just most likely probably restore the King teisco amp if i can and sell it, unless I can find another for stereo!!

Re: Holy Crud, whta the heck did I just buy these for??

Sorry, I cant delete or edit posts-
I'll try again..you clearly see the premap I bought atop the 2x15 cabinet that has the 50 watt amp I bought. Again, I am pretty sure that the setreo preamp was meant for two of the 50 watt 2x15 amp units, becasue as you see it pictured here , its atop one 50 watt amp like the same amp I bought, and its got a mono switch , so its switched to Mono. Thanks;

Re: Holy Crud, whta the heck did I just buy these for??

That looks like an AWESOME project to me!!!
Do you have a schematic for both...?
Does not seem like it cost much money, so what the heck...!!
I did not read all the info you provided, but perhaps the previous owner changed the voicing of the pre to better suit guitar? The power amp is mono and supposedly a Japanese guitar amp, so you will not have to deal with two OT's and all the stereo stuff....correct?
So long as the tubes in the pre are easy to come by, I think you have a unique opportunity there.
Good Luck

Hi ZZ. Thanks for your comment. One thing though, I founds this about the word "JAP" you used;
Jap is an English abbreviation of the word "Japanese." Today it is regarded as an ethnic slur, though English-speaking countries differ in the degree they consider the term offensive. In the United States, Japanese Americans have come to find the term controversial or offensive, even when used as an abbreviation.[1] In the past, Jap was not considered primarily offensive; however, during and after the events of World War II, the term became derogatory.[2]

Now I know you certainly didn't mean any offense, and even though I am not Japanese, nor do I know any Japanese people unfortunately, I'm sure we both respedt and value the contributions of Japanese culture to world society, so I hope everyone refrains from using that word just in case we might offend someone , okay?
Thanks.

Re: Holy Crud, whta the heck did I just buy these for??

I am so use to that term as a 1960's electronics reference, I just did not think I guess. I worked in a electronics company during the early 1980's, parts sheets often used the abbreviation JAP for county of origin identification, and that was my use of term as well.
It is still wrong however, and I will correct my error in my previous post.
My Apologies

Cool stuff.
And cheap as well.

I wonder how they sound. More for home usage i supposed
Preamp + amp + cabinet ..
Do post some sound clips if possible and pictures of the "radio-cons"

=)

Re: Holy Crud, whta the heck did I just buy these for??

so i guess that means you no longer need that thing you bought last week?

the one i said i'd buy from you?

i mean you obviously no longer need it.

Re: Holy Crud, whta the heck did I just buy these for??

dunno, but the preamp looks fun. you don't see a lot of stand alone vintage guitar preamps.

Re: Holy Crud, whta the heck did I just buy these for??

Any chance you still have the amp and are willing to sell it? I used to own on 1968 - 1974.

Cool Preamp I remember alot of good times with it.

Re: Holy Crud, whta the heck did I just buy these for??

yeah. thanks. At the time i couldnt see the forest for the treees, but I think this Turned out to be one of the very best bargain snags I've ever done.
In fact, i wouldnt sell them for 5 times what I got them for now. I have a feeling that these jems, once restored ( and I can do it myself I think), will be almost an amplifier tube preamp combo that will be one of thsoe amps that just sound vintage-y and fabulous beyond all belief.

I have a NO EBAY AFTER DRINKING policy. It has served me well since I made a few dump decisions years ago.

Good plan!! Im sure Id find myself struggling to come up with alot of money the days after..

Re: Holy Crud, whta the heck did I just buy these for??

If you change your mind and want to sell. Drop me a line. I used to use the pre to over drive a SkyLark that I had hooked to the 2x15 cab. Sound crazy I know, but it just worked... phat, smooth overdrive...plenty loud enough. The amp in the bottom of the cabinet didn't breakup until you got it up to 11..made your ears bleed. Keep me posted on how it works out for you.
