"Holy Grail" Hamer Standard

Re: "Holy Grail" Hamer Standard

Yeah that one is gonna go Big! I think I have an idea who the new owner might be. Not me but 1 or 2 others I know got dem deep pockets to get it.

That is #0042 in that line of Hamer. They had two serial numbering orders. Standards and custom orders are called 4 digits and go to around 0750 IIRC and the others go 7 0001 current numbers being 255*** with the first number being the year and the rest the guiar made number. After #0750 or so was made those guitars joined the regular system in about 1986.

That's a great piece right there. Add that BOC stickered guitar case and you can't lose.

Re: "Holy Grail" Hamer Standard

OK, Rand-o-monium, you came up with this, will you come with a tidy whipe to wipe the drool of my keyboard and the j!zm of my pants?

thanks! :)

Re: "Holy Grail" Hamer Standard

It's a beaut, alright. Cherry sunburst and/or flametops are not really my thing, but I must admit that is a gorgeous example of both.

Re: "Holy Grail" Hamer Standard

that your dream axe Randy??

Isnt that a steep price? interesting how you almost never see USA Standards up for sale. Guess thats why the price suprises me so much.. I sure wish I could score one..

Re: "Holy Grail" Hamer Standard

Steep price? For a 1976 Hamer? In that condition? I'm thinking not. :headbang: Price is up there because it is an older Standard. Were it newer I doubt it would be over $1800.

One of 'em,fo' sho'!!!!!

More intrigued by the low ser #,thought this one may go thru the roof, even moreso than it already has.

Just "oooooooooohing & aaaaaaaaaaaahing" more than anything, tho,& thought it'd get some of the same here!!!

Are the older ones better? sorry to sound like a dunce, but I figure they still build em the same way, so the new ones would be as desirable. Id never heard where they went down in quality like I hear so often with brand G.

That lefty is gorgeous!!

Ummm that answer is a good 5 minute conversation. Differant builders of 1975 to 1985 Standards and then the guys that built them 1995 until today. There were changes such as going from a Gibber style control cavity to a triangled hole. Desireable OH YEAH!!! :friday:

To me, my two are my '59 Les Pauls. But that is only my opinion. :cool2:

Click on the tab guitars then the standard tab to learn all you want then I will try to answer any other questions. The one I posted above is #0076 it has the Gibber style cavity. That lasted until about #0100 IIRC.

Re: "Holy Grail" Hamer Standard

many yrs ago, a shop here in town had a few of Dave Hlubeks old hamers for sale.. I was broke, but I wanted one of the standards soooo bad..

Re: "Holy Grail" Hamer Standard

A friend of mine had a Hamer Standard just like that one, maybe a couple years newer. It belonged to either Jerry Riggs or Jeremy Graf from the band 'Riggs', who had a song called 'Radar Rider' on the Heavy Metal movie soundtrack way back in the day. They had another song on there called 'Heartbeat' I think it was.

Anyhow, my buddy was told the guitar was played on one of the tunes, but he could never confirm that, and who really cared? What we did care about was what a badass guitar that was. It was beautiful, played like a dream, and sounded like the guitar of the gods through his 1970 Marshall stack. This was in the 80s and just like a lot of guys back then, he modified the guitar and put a Kahler on it. Just dumb kids back then having a good time.

He's still kicking himself for 1) the Kahler fiasco, and 2) ever selling the guitar. I hadn't thought about that in years till I saw this thread. I don't think I'll tell him what it could have been worth now.
