Re: "Holy Grail" Hamer Standard

Steep price? For a 1976 Hamer? In that condition? I'm thinking not. :headbang: Price is up there because it is an older Standard. Were it newer I doubt it would be over $1800.

I can think of one newer Standard that might go over 1800.:cool2:

Re: "Holy Grail" Hamer Standard

For that price you could get a Gibson. :outahere:

Hamer owns Gibson, hands-down, any day, any time. There's no comparison until you start getting into Historics, and the differences were even more pronounced back in the 70s and early 80s.

Re: "Holy Grail" Hamer Standard

BTMN, that's incredible. Huge Molly Hatchet fan, here. If I had that guitar I'd be just as proud of it as you are. Great find.

Re: "Holy Grail" Hamer Standard

Thanks gents. :notworthy

6 months after buying it, in the Spring of '83, I ran across Dave at a bar called Playground South in Jax. On his way out I caught up to him to ask if it was his guitar for sure.

He wasn't real nice but said it was his and that the G string "never" stayed in tune and some other such. Basically "junk" and that was why he let it go in pawn. I have not changed tuners but have changed the nut 13 years later in '96.

Guy at the pawnshop told me Dave only got $100 about 4 months before I walked in and bought it. A Hamer Standard dot neck was a $1600 guitar IIRC new then. Hamer confirmed it was Dave's too along with a Vector I bought at the same time. Vector has been gone, sadly, since 1986. :34:

Shame...

Re: "Holy Grail" Hamer Standard

Next time I get down that way, I've GOT to give one of those two a try! Whackhead looks like a monster, man.

I lived up there 1982-1987 with visits on a semi regular basis.

I remember playing the Schulte, all the Plant City Deans, that Korina Artist you sold to Ian, but I don't think I ever actually played the Hamers. You've got all kinds of ****, come to think of it, that I want to get my grubby little hands on! Remember that black 96 V that you got for a song? I'd also really like to see what Ben was able to do to that ex-broken cZ...

Thank god for gear addicts like you, Gene!!!

Re: "Holy Grail" Hamer Standard

I can see that happening.

Ben put the whammy on that Czech Z. :naughty:

Re: "Holy Grail" Hamer Standard

Here take a ticket. :friday:

I think you make #478 since I bought it in 1982 that have wanted it. :cool2: :scratchch :28:

I only recently learned something really cool about it but am gonna wait until I can learn it for fact. :naughty: I have found Don Kirshner videos on Youtube with this guitar and a boot video on there from Paris with this guitar. I have had it out since this thread started. Sherry Baby needs a lil electronic work but I have that situation covered soon.

As a Molly fan from back then and a Hamer fan just as long I feel honored to own it and play it well. Dave owned it about 2-3 years, I've owned it almost 30. :approve:

BTMN's House of Retired Hamers is always open to lovely souls like it. :friday: :ok: :1: :13:
