Holy Mother of 80's Metal Tone!

Re: Holy Mother of 80's Metal Tone!

OH! Never tried that one. My main is still the modded You Dirty Rat... hmm I should give the Solo a try.

I think the Turbo is the "hottest" they make unmodded, but the Solo is my favorite. It gets the great Rat tones BUT is just so much more versatile. Can easily get the "melt-your-face-off" gain sounds. Through my Fender Hot Rod Deluxe, the Solo feels like it is pushing the amp more...if that makes any sense. lol

I would say give it a try, you won't be disappointed. :)

Re: Holy Mother of 80's Metal Tone!

just looked up the SOLO.. might have to put it on my wish list..
The SOLO is the newest member of the Pro Co family of stomp boxes. Although it is housed in the same indestructible and road worthy steel enclosure that has come to be a trademark of Pro Co stomp boxes, the SOLO marks a departure from the RAT series of pedals in more ways than just the new cosmetics. With its enormous range of tones, 3 way selectable "hot, melt, & burn" modes, and highly interactive "scoop" and "tone" controls, the SOLO just might be the most versatile pedal in your arsenal. Don't let the name fool you, the 100% analog SOLO is no one trick pony. It is equally at ease in both lead and rhythm capacities, and with a wide variety of amplifiers and guitars. Capable of going from vibey, chewy, warm low gain tones, to deliciously mean and crushing high gain tones, the Solo still remains remarkably true to the sound that matters most: The sound of you and your guitar. And speaking of staying true to the sound of your guitar, true-bypass switching ensures that when the pedal is off, there is no coloration of your sound. Even in its highest gain settings, the SOLO remains extremely tube-like, articulate and touch sensitive. Complex chords ring out with clarity, leads sustain with ease. Roll back your volume knob and it cleans up, just like a good tube amp would. The solo uses three pairs of carefully matched (or should we say, carefully mismatched) clipping diodes to produce asymmetrical clipping. The three pairs are accessible via the "hot, melt, burn" slider switch. This has the effect of making the SOLO clip very much like a tube amp going into natural power tube distortion. Pro Co Sound also makes several other highly regarded effects including the popular RAT2, Turbo RAT, You Dirty RAT, and Deuce tone. Each effect has its own unique tone structure.

Re: Holy Mother of 80's Metal Tone!

For flexibility and awesome, go Solo.

But…this thing just fell in my lap so I'm going vintage!

I'm a rather simple man, so a modded RAT is truly awesome for me as it is :p

Anyway, maybe if you took your RAT to a hardware store and try the screws there...

I saw the BKW and said "Hey - is that Brian??!?!?!?!"

Cool man!

Welcome aboard or back or whatever.

Re: Holy Mother of 80's Metal Tone!

Great sound. For a long time it was a major part of Trevor Perez's (obituary) tone. Used to have an old one my guitar teacher gave me.

BKW gave a great site -

But I went to my local Fastenal store and got screws.

Stay tuned for hair raising sounds!

Re: Holy Mother of 80's Metal Tone!

Well, got a battery in, screwed the screws and jacks tight, and a One Spot adapter works in it!!!!!!

It is now in my pedal board of 80's Hair Metal DOOM!!!!!!

And it sounds most triumphant.

Re: Holy Mother of 80's Metal Tone!

I personally never cared for those. I have a few friends that had them when they first came out.

Re: Holy Mother of 80's Metal Tone!

Honestly, been messing with it a lot the past couple of days…I think I can clone my Marshall OD channel with it….which raises the issue of Do I need it?

That said - it will do other different things the MArshall doesn't.

Use it to push your Marshall's OD channel, then :D
