Holy Smokes! Marshall Jubilee auction.

Re: Holy Smokes! Marshall Jubilee auction.

ok this is just idiotic

I had a chance to buy one from a guy here in LA who would probably still sell it to me as a clean half stack for $1800 - I just decided I do not want another Marshall. I think for now I am going to stick with Bogner. They are great amps, but I still think there are better amps out there.

Re: Holy Smokes! Marshall Jubilee auction.

3k ... how much of it is a name recognition ..... I mean, what is it that this thing does that will never happen on JCM800 for example ....

Re: Holy Smokes! Marshall Jubilee auction.

When I was 18, I bought a 2555 brand new for $886 out the door. I saved up for awhile and begged the store to sell it to me cheap. The mint cond. stack I have now was found for $1400! I love the 2550 I have now. It's really the best sounding Jubilee I've ever heard. I've been playing through it more lately, but it's definitely an 80's hotrodded Marshall sound. It's got JJ E-34L's and Sovtek LPS pre tubes.

The Bogner has a different sound....it's thicker and and rounder sounding, like a souped up P to P Marshall. I really like the Jubilee too though, and I doubt I'll ever sell my fullstack.....unless I'm much older and the price I get for it is insane. Luckily, I have the matching cabs, original covers, and silver bumper sticker. I wish I could locate an old owners manual.

On a JCM 800, the gain gets a bit muddy when the gain knob is too high, and it's got a lot less gain.

On the Jubilee, the bass is tighter and the range of tones on the gain knobs gives you a lot of variety. With the gain on 7, it's fully distorted and has a tight crunchy highgain. With the gain on 4, it sounds like a regular 800 with the gain on 9. The Jubilee is the best sounding highgain amp Marshall ever made, IMO. The 30th Ann. with EL-34's is pretty nice too.

Re: Holy Smokes! Marshall Jubilee auction.

Ok, the guy I abought my AOR from said that the only reason he is selling it is because his Jubilee covers all of his high gain demands, and he simply did not need another high gain amp. But, 3k ... I mean can it compete in high gain versitility with high end Engls? My point is, that there are stomp boxes and mods to push for more gain on same JCM800 to have high gain marshal tone and still be under 3k.

Re: Holy Smokes! Marshall Jubilee auction.

That's ridiculous...just four months ago, I saw the exact same model in similiar condition sell for less than half that price.

Re: Holy Smokes! Marshall Jubilee auction.

Unbelievable, goes to show that you can never judge the amp market :smack: The Jubilee is definitely one of the best amps Marshall has ever made, but 3k??? I'd have an XTC 101B calling my name instead ;)

Re: Holy Smokes! Marshall Jubilee auction.

Agreed. That is just a rediculous price:eek13: I bought a 2553 second hand but in as new condition in 1991 for £200 (less than $400)!!!!!!!!!
I think second hand Marshall prices in general are just too much - hell, even some people are asking for more than new price on second hand DSL's on EBAY!!!!

How's about this too - over $2k and rising for a 4x12!!!!!!

GJ, I whole heartedly agree with that, I love my Jub!!!!

But you left out the story of the hippie in the middle of the desert that owned a Jubilee!!!! :laugh2:

Re: Holy Smokes! Marshall Jubilee auction.

I agree the price is ridiculous, but do not forget the collectability factor. There's alot of old Marshall's that sound like crap, but fetch high $ just because they are old and/or a certain color. Jubilees are 25th anniversary amps and you won't find that "look" again.

For someone who is collecting, that may have been the exact amp he wanted and that had eluded him so far, and thus he was willing to pay that price (ridiculous as it seems)

Re: Holy Smokes! Marshall Jubilee auction.

Funny... I bought mine three years ago for $300.

Re: Holy Smokes! Marshall Jubilee auction.

Holy smokes, that's crazy. Those models look cool but I was never big in to them. I prefer the 2203/2204 myself. I just like single channel heads more, that's all. Outside the Marshall realm, I would love to have a Soldano, but I know those catch bucks as well.

Re: Holy Smokes! Marshall Jubilee auction.

Simon_F and that Slash guy made them very popular! :D

Re: Holy Smokes! Marshall Jubilee auction.

This is all because one very good manager whom I know at GC sold a very renowned music personality a Slash Model for $2400. For crying out loud, that was a pristine amp bought somewhat hush hush by a famous person who had the money and does not shop for themselves.

Ever since that sale price leaked around the internet, the price on these things has shot up worse than it did last year.

Re: Holy Smokes! Marshall Jubilee auction.

Maybe I'm missing something here but I don't see $3k anywhere on the auction. From his auction that ended and the new one he put up for the same head, I see a BIN for $1,750. What am I missing?:smack:

I like Soldanos too, but to be honest, I think the Jubilees have a sweeter sound.

There was a few months where I was auditioning rhythm guitar players, and I had the Bogner sitting next to the Jubilee. Every guy walked into the rehearsal room with cool amps, so we'd always listen to the tone differences, just for fun. The Bogner just plain kills everything, but it was fun to listen to the Jubilee against other Marshalls, Mesas, ENGL's, H&K, and others. The Jubilee impressed everyone, and held it's own against all those amps. The only negative on the Jubilee is that sometimes it can sound smaller than amps that have less gain on tap. It's only because it's a highgain amp, and the more focused it sounds, the narrower it sounds. That's usually the case with most amps.....the more gain, the less it cuts and the narrower it sounds.

For all you Jubilee owners, I'd suggest using an Alesis Nanoverb with it. I use my Jubilee in my music room with the Nanoverb adding reverb and also serving as another volume control. Using the Nanoverb output control, I can set the amp up to sound killer, but also reign in the volume a bit. It sounds like a fully cranked JCM 800 with reverb at bedroom levels. If the Jubilee has any selling point, it's the fact that it can sound like other Marshalls at more reasonable volume levels.

Re: Holy Smokes! Marshall Jubilee auction.

BTW folks...

There's not that much difference between the guts of the 2-channel JCM 800 & a Jubliee...

Replace the diode clipping with LED, swap a few cap values...etc.

If you have both schematics in front of you, most good techs could do the work.
