soooo i've been looking for a rhoads guitar for a while
scored a pre-fender rhoads ( decent condition ) from ebay.

ran into a huge problem.

i want to replace the jackson trem ( old and rusty ) with a floyd i got laying around.

so i took off the trem. and holy mother of rust on the pivot screws. i get one out with quite a bit of force. but the other one broke right at the thinest part of the pivot screw ( where the blade of the old trem sat ). its rusted all to hell. there is almost no room to get pliers of any decent size in there. and i dont know how to get it out.

wtf do i do now -_-? haha

Re: holy @#$@ what do i do.

i just want the pivot screws out. id like to leave the other part inside so i can just clean them out and insert some new screws.

**edit** there is almost no room to drill even a small hole because of the diameter the piece where it broke :-\

Re: holy @#$@ what do i do.

You're talking about the 2 posts the floyd rocks on, right?

If so, as I said, just drill down the center of the post, tap it, then stick something down in there to twist it out. It that won't work, I'd like to see a picture of the post in the guitar.

Re: holy @#$@ what do i do.

i took it to home depot / lowes all of the screw extractors are too big ( even the smallest ones )

Re: holy @#$@ what do i do.

home depot and lowes are good places, when it comes to gardening or stuff like that. they dont have any custom sized stuff, and you wont find much small things over there. you might have to find a small shop, or order it from the internet.

if there are no small shops and you dont want to order something on the internet without knowing if it works or not (which i wouldnt do) your only alternative is to take it to some luthier in your area

Re: holy @#$@ what do i do.

It's probably a good idea for you not to try anyway considering you didn't automaticly know to do this. Extracting a broke off screw is usually not that easy and when working with a guitar you have to be much more careful than working on a car.

Take it to a guitar shop and have it fixed...

Look in a decent auto parts store and not the GC of home Improvement :D

Seriously, that´s where I buy my screw grubs, and I have ones that will work for a floyd post and even smaller ones ;)

Re: holy @#$@ what do i do.

i used my dremel to cut the post itself in about half, where it was a larger diameter and it came out fine with a screw extractor :D
