Hondo Deluxe series 775

Hello, again!! Once again I have a question about a guitar. Alright, so my uncle used to play guitar a while back, and had a couple of his old guitars lying around and he gave them to my grandparents to hold onto. Well, once my grandparents were told I was starting guitar, they talked to my uncle about the guitars and he said I could have them. But my grandparents live halfway across the country, so I was wondering if the guitar stated in the title is even worth paying like 30$ to get it shipped down here? My grandfather said it's in pretty rough condition, but still looks "Alright". He said it looks like some of the bridge is missing or something. The other guitar is supposedly a little better and in alot better condition and is in a case, but he's not sure where it is at the moment.

Thanks for any help!!!

Re: Hondo Deluxe series 775

I just googled Hondo Deluxe series 775 and they look rad. I would say it's worth the shipping money.

Re: Hondo Deluxe series 775

I would definitely say it's worth the shipping costs, even if its a project to work on once it gets there.

Re: Hondo Deluxe series 775

Guitar #1 - Cheap Hondo Star
Guitar #2 - "Much better condition and in a case." So help me, if it's a San Dimas Charvel or Jackson......

Pay the $30 to have them ship the one with the case and have them hang onto the Hondo for you.

The other dimas is missing. SO its hondo or nothing.

Re: Hondo Deluxe series 775

get both guitars, see if they need any work, anyway, a change of saddles or hardware are sometimes what guitars need to get back to rock the hell out of them, also cheap guitars are cool!

Re: Hondo Deluxe series 775

I have 2 old 1970's something Hondo's, both white W/big black pickgaurd, routed for one bridge HBucker each, neck is maple on maple, necks are as thick as an early Jeff Beck baseball bat. One still in use I gave to a friends kid, for reasons I cannot go into, it was a bad choice and it is too late to get it back, as it is his #1.
I still have the other, and the white paint has not yellowed at all.
So I say get all the Hondo's you can. The body is heavy, feels and looks like alder, shaped like a Strat of some sort, kinda.

Alright, Thanks guys!! I'll ask them to ship down! :D

I'll post a new thread with pictures on it when/if I get it. There shouldn't be a reason why I can't get it, but you never know.

Re: Hondo Deluxe series 775

And, I'm still not 100% if I can get yet, but I found out that my uncle stopped playing more than 20 years ago, so it has to be from before the mid 90's.

Re: Hondo Deluxe series 775

Okay! So my grandfather pulled out the other guitar, he found out it doesn't have a case, and it doesn't look great either. He said it's almost the same "Star" shape, but it says nothing on it, and it's missing some electronics or something. He said he'll just ship them down when he can, so I should have them within 2-3 weeks probably.

Re: Hondo Deluxe series 775

I would definitely get them both and clean them up. It never hurts to have extra guitars laying around, even if they are missing parts or on rough shape. I absolutely LOVE finding cheap/free guitars in bad shape, as it gives me a way to practice my luthiery skills without worrying about messing up any of my babies. Congrats on the soon to be NGDs!
