HOT brigde PAF or PAF voiced

I´m back asking again, couldn´t find my last thread.
I wan´t a really hot PAF or PAF voiced humbucker for the bridge of my Les Paul.
I currently have the burstbucker pro.

I don´t like the sound of ceramic magnet, i feel that they provide a to harsh attack in the tone.
I guess the Alnico 5 is my favourite mag for the bridge but i will respect all your opinions.

why don't you just change the magnet in the burstbucker to an A8, it sounds like a hot PAF
If you like A5s then just buy one and put it in

Re: HOT brigde PAF or PAF voiced

BB Pro already has an alnico V.

For a hotter PAF voicing, you need to check out (from coolest to hottest) the Demon, S Deco, and C5.

Another option would be Duncan's pickup booster. Hot or not, you decide with a tap of your toe.

Re: HOT brigde PAF or PAF voiced

Well, first off, the Burstbucker Pro is not ceramic, it is Alnico 5. From the way your post reads, it sounds like you're assuming it is ceramic.

The Burstbucker Pro can sound really good, but just like any pickup, you need to fiddle with the height adjustment, including the screw pole pieces.

The Custom 5 does really well in Les Pauls. It's not exactly a PAF but if you want something like a 59 bridge, only hotter, the Custom 5 is it.

Ok, clarification needed on the ceramic magnet.
I know Burstbucker pro´s has Alnico 5 mags.
I´ve tried some pickups with ceramic mags, hotrails and others but i´ve always felt that ceramic has to harsh attack

Re: HOT brigde PAF or PAF voiced

Some ceramic mag pickups can be harsh, yes. However, I don't think the Hot Rails is one of them (just my opinion and experience). My favorite ceramic pickup is the DiMarzio Super Distortion. That in a Les Paul through a Marshall is tonal heaven.

Re: HOT brigde PAF or PAF voiced

If you want a hotter BB Pro, you could try getting a BB3 and putting the Alnico V magnet in it from the BB Pro.

But personally, I have no problems getting a hot PAF tone out of a BB Pro.

Re: HOT brigde PAF or PAF voiced

Some options (for the record)

1. The mighty Brobucker (degaussed a5 at 10K #42 wire)
2. PATB-3 again #42 wire (if I am not wrong) at ~9.50K
3. Screaming Demon, again #42 wire at ~10K (yet them allen heads is changing the tone of the pickup quite a bit)
4. If you can score are hot PG+ -something like 8.80K or more, it won't be easy tho- (and PG+ is not a PG, it is a PG with an a5) that's definitely one of the best hot PAFs out there
5. DiMarzio VPAF Hot, very good pickup as well
6. A hot Duncan Antiquity Bridge HB with an a5, it as good as it gets
7. A hot 59B, I came across a 8.80K one, which I let go recently (because of the Brobucker and PATB-3)

There are some other custom shop pickups, like WCRs Goodwoods and I think Icebuckers, and Duncan 78 (EVH) pickup. But I think that's about it (if I am not forgetting anything).
