I am stealing your description of the S-Deco, because the way you compare it to the Demon is both spot on and a great reference for all the players who have been curious, but never tried one.

So for anyone curious, the Benjy_26 description of a standard A-5 loaded S-Deco nails it and should give you an accurate idea of what it is all about.

Another cool thing about the S-Deco is how versatile it is. It really sounds great in a variety of guitars and for a variety of music!

Oh! One more comparison I have seen people wonder about is the Perpetual Burn vs S-Deco. That is a case right there of how 2 pickups with a similar DC resistance and the same magnet can sound quite different. Perpetual Burn is a more aggressive pickup to my ears: more upper mid content and top end, whereas the Deco is more balanced amd warmer.

Just to throw this out there for people who aren't in the loop about the S-Deco, there are three advertised magnet options, A2, A4, and A5 (you can get all the other magnets, but these three are the most common and were listed on the CS webpage) and each one was wound slightly differently. I don't have any on hand to look at, but here is what Darth Phineas found on his:

S-Deco Bridge:
Alnico 2, 43AWG Plain Enamel
Series – 12.65k
Split n – 6.35k
Split s – 6.31k
Parallel – 3.16k

S-Deco Bridge:
Alnico 5, 43AWG Plain Enamel
Series – 11.74k
Split n – 5.85k
Split s – 5.89k
Parallel – 2.94k

They do also come with ~4-6k coil mismatch for the neck models.

Yep Fender used it in particular in some of the Fat Strats and Washburn put it in some of the USA MG guitars in the mid 90's. Never really cared for that particular pickup though just found it lacking. Always pulled those out of my USA MG Washburns in favor of a JB or Custom variant.

The S Deco is one of my favorite duncan winds. I haven't owned a screamin demon and s deco at the same time or guitar. I have owned both at different points tho. I recall the demon sounding brighter than a S Deco V. I got the Demon based off previous posts placing it as a close approximation of the S Deco in a production p'up. Close, but slight differences as noted above. I think my favorite version of the S Deco was in a strat rail using an aged A5. I regret selling that pickup.

Given it's Custom Shop, if you ask them for a S-Deco built to match those specs, you can have the great MJ and SD make that decision for you, instead of me, a lowly forumite. They can do anything in the SD Custom Shop.

I put an Alnico 9 in my PGb. It gotta fatter, hotter, and thicker. It pushed the amp harder too. It also lots of chunky bottom end. It sounded great in my Strat, too much low end in my Epi LP.

The version of an S-Deco that is like a sweeter and more refined Demon is the A5 version.

If you want Fullshred or Custom 5 type output, that will require either overwinding it or a magnet swap and I can tell you that both change the dynamics a fair bit. I have an S-Deco with an A8 and two rows of allen screws (like a fullshred) in a PRS Mira right now. Killer pickup, but quite a bit different than a stock Deco.

Thanks! So, A5 version will have close output of Demon?

So fullshred is A8 and Allen screws ?or just one of ? Any options of hearing a clip of the S-Deco/Fullshred hybrid?

The A5 Deco is a bit hotter and warmer than a Demon. Lets say, output wise, a '59 is a "5". A Demon would be a 6 and a Deco would be a 7.5 or so. If that makes sense.

And sorry, the fullshred is 2 rows allen screws and an A5 magnet. I had the Custom shop make me an S-Deco with an A8 magnet and 2 rows of allen screws. So it is still an S-Deco...
Just modified. Very different beast compared to a regular A5 Deco! Lol!

So, A5 Deco is 11.74 from what I found, and Fullshred on the site is DCR 14.1, so a little cooler .... this could be compensated with a notch up on the pre-amp knob ?

double allens and a8 is going to make your pup sound a lot different than a typical s-deco

My PG+ is actually on a par with CC (both in LPs) volume wise, FWIW. Tone wise, there's something special that I really like from more winds of 42awg paired with A5.
