HOT RAIL vs MULTIMITER

red/white + green/bare = 7.70
black + green/bare = ZERO
black + red/white = ZERO

wtf

Re: HOT RAIL vs MULTIMITER

Red and white should be connected for series wiring. Then test the green and black wires. You don't need to hook up the bare because it is a shield and not essential to the pickups operation. Check your earlier thread for an explanation of the shield.

Re: HOT RAIL vs MULTIMITER

dont need to rewire
look at the sticky post on front page
shows what to expect

the black/white wires are start/finish for one coil
the red/green are start finish for the other

one of them has come loose

carefully remove tape to reveal coils

see the loose one?

see where it came from?

solder it back

replace tape

Or the pickup is not a hotrails and uses a different wiring code. There are a lot of hotrail look alikes.

Here some pics.
The pic with the bare wire is 2 weeks older. It came off...
I removed the oval base, I built another one to make it fit in a telecaster bridge.
A month ago, it worked. But probably the wires were almost dead. Now they are, and I need to fix it, any suggestion? Is it simple wiring? Is there a particular way to wire them?
Thanks guys.

Where are the white and black conductors soldered in?

The pickup looks like a Kent Armstrong or Patrick Eggle Hot Rails clone. I cannot remember the output conductor colour code format.

They're soldered in the other two edges?
Can't this be a very old Seymour Duncan Hot Rails?
I bought it used around 10 years ago.
The person who sold it to me was a guitar teacher, I don't remember if he said that's a Seymour or it just looks like... Anyway... he said something about it.

Re: HOT RAIL vs MULTIMITER

That looks like the Kent Armstrong OEM that I had. The colors are the same but the wiring combination's are different. If it's a Kent Armstrong/SKY pickup the red+green are twisted together to complete the series circuit.

No ****.
Good.
Now I know.
Please.
Meet me for a beer.
And slap my face.
Thanks again! Should I try to fix it or should I just trash it? Are these pick ups any good?
I just need to fill up an empty hole in the bridge of my Telecaster, but I don't really need it, I will use only the one on the neck.
BTW, if any of you remembers my post about the JB... i got it to work, and it's ****ing awesome! THANKS!

Re: HOT RAIL vs MULTIMITER

The Kent Armstrong rails that I had was roughly similar to the SD Hotrails. It had a bit more bass and treble, but less midrange. It was rougher sounding and not as refined as other high output mini's I have tried, but still usable. If you remove the cloth shield you should be able to solder a ground wire to that copper shield, but don't heat it up too much. You still might be able save it.
