Hot rails vs. Cool rails

What would make for a beter neck and middle position pickup for heavy blues and classic rock, the Hot rails or the Cool rails. Also, as best as you could describe, ( I know they're not exact), what full size humbucker would sound the closest to a Hot rails and a Cool rails in the neck position. Thanks in advance.

Re: Hot rails vs. Cool rails

I've got a Cool Rails, it's lovely - the notes just flow into each other. I'm gassing for Hot Rails but never tried it before (although I have heard quite a few clips).

Common consensus is that the Cool Rails is quite similar to the Lil' 59...

Re: Hot rails vs. Cool rails

For heavy blues and classic rock, go with the Cool Rails. For hard rock and shred metal, get the Hot Rails. They are actually quite similar tonally, the Hot Rails is just hotter, thus the name. The Cool Rails sounds like a PAF type pickup, and is remarkably versatile. I;ve got both and I love both. However, the Hot Rails can get a little muddy in the neck if you don't eq your amp just right.

I see you have both a hot rails and a cool rails in the neck, which one is closest to a full size PAF?

You’re probably not going to get a response from him since the last post in this thread was 15 years ago.

Re: Hot rails vs. Cool rails

The Cool Rails is sort of like the Jazz neck. I don't know of a neck humbucker that is like the Hot Rails.

Re: Hot rails vs. Cool rails

I love cool rails necks and like Mincer think it sounds a lot like the jazz hb.

However, note that I find it a lot hotter than a traditional strat and usually include a parallel to self or spin a split to back it off to be closer to a traditional strat.
