Hot Rails vs. JB Humbucker

So I want a strat pretty bad and I will be playing a lot of punk/hard rock so I'm wondering if a better bet will be to get a standard 3 single coil and get a hot rails mini bucker or get a fat strat and install the SH-4 JB Model I already have laying around my closet. Which will get me a better punch for the hard hitting tone??

Re: Hot Rails vs. JB Humbucker

The Hot Rails and JB have two different tones. The HR might work well for punk/hard rock, but would you consider another humbucker instead of the JB?

Re: Hot Rails vs. JB Humbucker

Don't get me wrong, the JB's not bad, I was just thinking something like an Invader or Distortion.

Re: Hot Rails vs. JB Humbucker

To me, the JB which is a relatively bright pickup in a strat which is a relatively guitar wont get you a real hard rock tone IMO. I'd go for the Hotrails over the JB. If you go full sized HB though, check out the DD or Custom.

Re: Hot Rails vs. JB Humbucker

Only reason I mention the JB is because I already have the pickup from a previous purchase and I'm trying to save some money by using what I have available

Re: Hot Rails vs. JB Humbucker

But if I was going to go with normal sized humbucker and shell out the cash I'd probably go with the Duncan Distortion

Re: Hot Rails vs. JB Humbucker

Hot rails too hot and the tone is not that good when you backout or doing a clean 1. JB and Lil' Screaming Demon the way to go, but the demons is a bit on the brighter side.
