Hot Stack (STK-S2B) - partially functional?

I bought a seymour duncan Hot Stack (STK-S2B) pickup today, used, from a craigslist ad. Well, I found out why the guy was asking only $20! I think each individual coil is good, but the connection between the coils isn't working? It is a 4-conductor, with a bare ground wire.

With the red and white soldered together (bridging both coils), I get no reading when testing green and black. But if I desolder red and white, then test white and black, my meter reads 10.35, and red and green reads 10.13.

Am I correct in thinking that the bridge between the coils is severed? If so, can I use either coil alone and how would I wire it?

Thx

Change the battery of your meter and try again. (Just a guess, because with weak batteries i have sometimes readings and sometimes not)

The 'bridge between the coils' as you put it is the solder joint between the red and white wires. If its the typical 4 conductor pickup (with ground bare) then each wire is just the start and finish of each coil.

So, then, with the red and white soldered, why am I not getting a reading on the black and green?

Facepalm! Ok, the pickup is good! I had the meter set to 20 ohms, which I've always set it to when testing pickups. The reading was actually showing as 1, but I disregarded that as a bad reading. So, out of curiosity, I switched it to 200 ohms, and it read 20.4! Wow, I've never had a pickup hotter than 18k! I guess I'll leave my meter on 200 from now on... I hope this thread helps some one else along the way.

Thx!
