HOT,TIGHT,CLEAR pups?

Re: HOT,TIGHT,CLEAR pups?

I like the Custom for what you describe. I think it's quite the blend of aggression, clarity, tightness, and smoldering bliss.

Actually, it's SPOT ON what you described. Look at the specs page for further convincing. :) Shouldn't take too long to realize this is the one for you.

Re: HOT,TIGHT,CLEAR pups?

I had a pair of EMG 89s in a guitar, and yes they were very tight and clear. However, they were extremely sterile to my ears. I just couldn't get the kind of expression out of them as I do with my Duncans. Some people disagree that the EMGs are sterile sounding. But, I'm not the only one who thinks they are.

Re: HOT,TIGHT,CLEAR pups?

For non-duncans I would suggest the PRS#7 in the bridge. Bright, tight and extremely clear (the guy who installed it for me said he couldn't believe how defined and clear the chords sounded under heavy distortion, and he swears by the EMG 81). This pickup is not super hot though, probably around the same or slightly less than a JB. If you have the opportunity, go play a singlecut and see if you like the "general" tone.

Re: HOT,TIGHT,CLEAR pups?

I used for the bridge the Steve's Special, Air Zone, EMG 81, JB and now the Custom.
IMO the Custom is the best of them.

Re: HOT,TIGHT,CLEAR pups?

Imo the JB but i think ceramic buckers like DD or Custom are tighter. Just played the Custom of this two and it sounds like what you're describing
