Maybe i just havent broken mine in yet, but so far I think they are just to damn bassey.

And to answer your question about what to use instead, id say celestion vintage 30s. They have a lot of mids. Which is good for recording and live applications.

They are not bad speakers in any way. Saying they are the "worst" speakers Celestion make is like calling the Mercedes C-Class a piece of junk because it is the entry-level offering. I have them in a 4x12 that sounds great. They are better made and sounding than the majority of speakers in entry level gear.

Old thread I know, but figured I'd throw in my opinion.

I've never been able to get tones that weren't decent and usable out of those speakers. You have to EQ the amp for them. I like using loud, midrangey amps with those speakers/cabs because GT1275's have a lot of bass and treble and are kind of mid-neutral. Plus they're not really efficient speakers so they can tame the amp by a few dB's.

Pairing them with a V30 or G12H yields some cool results.

They're not BAD speakers per se, just like... OK. There's always better options, but if I show up to a gig with just a head and the house cab is loaded with G12T75's I'll be OK.

I really like them for classic rock. They came stock in my Sunn T50C combos. I tried Vintage 30s and a few other speakers in them and always came back to the G12T-75s.

I prefer the G12T-75s to Greenbacks in most closed back 4 X 12s or 2 X 12s. I also loaded one solo into an open back Avatar G112 cab.

Years ago, I bought 2 Carvin Legacy 2 X 12s. The first one came with Greenbacks. The second with Vintage 30s. To my ears, both sounded better when I swapped out the speakers for G12T-75/G12T-100 combinations.

Did I mention that I really like G12T-75s?

i would agree with that, except for the G12m-70's. Those are the worst imo.

I'll take a G12M-70 over a G12T-75 any day of the week.

I have a JCM800 cab loaded with G12T75's and G12M70's in an x pattern. It is totally killer. The two most loathed Celestian speakers together makes for a totally winning combination!

Atm, I've been playing a 200 watt SS Randall head through an open back 2x12 with a 12M-70 and a Swamp Thang. It sounds way bigger than it is. Perfect for a small room.

From what I've read the Sheffield 1290 speakers in my Peavey 412MS were designed to be like the G12M-70. I quite like my 412MS.
