How are Seths Under Gain?

Re: How are Seths Under Gain?

I tried a pair of Seths in my SG, and didn't like them. Them bridge pickup was too thing compared to the stock 490t. The neck pickup was an improvement over the 490r, but wasn't quite what I was looking for. I ultimately put the 490t back in the bridge position. I kept the Seth in the neck, but I swapped the A2 magnet for an A5 and changed the neck pots to 500k.

For the neck, I would suggest a Jazz, (maybe) a 59, or an A2pro.

A Seth definitely won't do it, then. I bet a Seth sounds great in an LP, but an SG lacks lower girth, as does the Seth: mix those together, and you have a thin sounding bridge.

I'll go out on a limb here and suggest the Blues Trembucker (assuming it fits). It's vintage-ish sounding, but has more mids and more low girth than a 59 (and it's alittle hotter).

Pete - is that the Saraceno pickup? Your not the first person to mention that. Hmmmm....

I might also look into a Rio Grande BBQ or a '57.

Yep, the Sareceno pickup. The only problems you may have is that it is a little wider, due to the trembucker spacing, so you might need to shave the pickguard a little bit (I'm assuming the routing is fine). The other potential problem is that it doesn't not come covered and an after-market cover will not fit (if looks matter to you).
