How can I tweak a Duncan Distortion to be tighter?

Re: How can I tweak a Duncan Distortion to be tighter?

Yes I boost my amp for tightness. I have tried everything that had to do with amp EQs and boosts and parametics, but it can only do so much. The allen screws is another step for tightening.

I do.

In my rack I have a TS-7 that I modded to TS-808 specs. With my Recto module (Randall MTS) it is always on. For the other modules (Blackface, Plexi, XTC) and my Studio Preamp, I like to go back an forth between boosted and not.

It's nice to be able to use all my preamp tones with and without the TS-7. The Schecter is starting to sound a lot better with and without boost after I modded the SH-6.

Last follow up on this. I've been using the Schecter guitar in my new band, and at high volume the "tightened" Duncan is just a MONSTER!

Sweet glad you've jumped aboard the hex pole express! It's a wild ride you won't want to get off.

Interesting thread. I never had a problem with the low-end tightness of DDs, but I just snagged one on Ebay to go in a Kramer I'm restoring last night, will see how that goes...:D

Re: How can I tweak a Duncan Distortion to be tighter?

It worked well on my JB. I think I'm in love with the JB now. I'm debating changing back to the fillisters though. I forgot how they sound like. What are the advantages of fillisters again?

The concept is simple, you slam an amp up front with less bass, and then compensate for your bass after the gain stages.

Same amount of bass, just tighter. It's the basis of modern detuned metal tone.

Thanks for the condescending response though.
Sorry for the late response but you could try this one. Get a graphic EQ. Doesn't have to have too many bands. But run it before the amp and dial down the bass frequencies. Then slam the amp with all the bass you want. Gives you a nice cutting pick attack and if your amp has the right bass knob, earth shaking low end. If not get another EQ system in the amps FX loop and you can do it there. Graphic is best for the pre-bass cut and parametric is best for the post distortion bass increase.

Look at my thread in Tips and Clips. That's in invader I'm using.

How would you personally dial in a 6 band in the front? Are you keeping the higher freqs relatively flat?

BINGO! +1
Also try a heavier gauge bottom E string.
