That’s just a Origin 20H, not a great amplifier if your looking for the classic Marshall crunch but it’s a fantastic pedal platform! I basically just use my Dirty Little Secret MKIII as my dirty CH & it handles my Reverb/Delay’s very well too...
I mostly play through my 5F6-A Bassman or 5E3 Tweed Deluxe if I’m going for American Blues flavored tube breakup or that classic Fender clean tone. Then if I wanna play higher gain stuff I’ve got a JCM-600, JCM-900, DSL-100HR, a couple Blackstar’s, & a 6505+ that I haven’t even touched in about 3 years!
The Origin with some pedals running through it is a great home practice amplifier though....
What would you say it's wrong with it for that purpose?
I've heard clips and demos of the Origin heads and frankly I love what I've heard and does sound in the ballpark of a classic amp to my ears. But of course, that's just Youtube.
I'd love to have your thoughts and impressions on this, since I really want a Origin 50 head to be honest.
Well without giving it away (because I do occasionally sell them) it’s similar to the Fromel Supreme mod or JHS High Gain T.S. mod. A few different cap/resistor values, a more efficient op-amp & probably the biggest difference, a combination of silicone and LED clipping diodes much like you’d see in some SD-1 mods?
Like those mods it’s essentially just a hotrodded 808 circuit. Cleaner with the gain turned down, dirtier with it turned up, better/tighter bass response, better note separation, more tone sweep & clarity, Etc...
