how come nobody makes 2-part strat style knobs so that

you can wire a strat with 3 individual volume/tone concentric pots? since it seems that the current volume and tone configuration causes so many people problems
i know that metal knobs are made, but i think strat style knobs would look better

Short answer, cost versus demand.

Edit:
Possible solution found.
Find someone with a 3D printer able to use ABS plastic wire.
Pay someone to design the CAD file.
Print.
Make tons of money.
Ok, probably not, but I just got back from a Maker Fair here in Raleigh and it was the first thing that came to mind as a viable solution since ABS plastic can now be extruded and a quick dip in an acetone bath will smooth the surface adequately.

The other hindrance is that a stacked version of a skirted plastic knob would be impractical. The skirted bottom half would be unusable. You couldn't get sufficient leverage on the angled bottom part to turn effectively. It would take a new design to have 'somewhat' of the Strat-knob appearance and still be usable. The numbers would go away because the top and bottom would be different and you'd need some grip on the bottom skirt.

It could be done:
-Knurled/ridged top portion
-bottom portion would have an outer ridge like wheel-style controls.

Numbers for the top would not be needed. Desirable, but not essential.

However, it would have to be precision-made because the shaft for the wheel would have to be ridged and the wheel itself would have to lock on as it was mounted. Basically you could never change the pot without destroying the wheel.
