How did Slash do that?

I have always wondered, in "welcome to the jungle" just before Axl sings "you know where you are" slash does some crazy delay/volume swell thing, what is he doing?

Re: How did Slash do that?

That is slide. Although I read in an interview with him that in the studio he did it with a 9 volt battery.

But is he using delay also on that slide part? It do sound like it. Any info on if it was a studio fx or if he used a pedal/rack?

Re: How did Slash do that?

Definitely delay, that's obvious. As to whether it was a pedal/rack in his rig or done from the console, most likely the console. When recording, it's recommended to mic everything dry and use the delay/reverb through the console. Who knows though. I wasn't there so I can tell you exactly, just speculate. :D

I'll take my 12 gauge shotgun shell as a slide anyday. The best slide I've ever played.
